Guest guest
Robin- >I would also consider taking another amino acid - carnitine - during the day >on an empty stomach. If you're going to take carnitine, make sure it's acetyl-l-carnitine. And interestingly, a small amount right before bed seems to help my sleep a lot better, even though it's a stimulant. Also, if you take any form of carnitine, you need to take R-alpha-lipoic acid. Carnitine boosts mitochondrial energy output and thus oxidation, and R-ALA is one of the only effective mitochondrial antioxidants out there. (Most ALA is NOT the real, orthomolecular R form, though, but a mix of R-ALA and S-ALA, which is only produced in labs and which appears to have numerous undesirable effects.) -
Guest guest
Hi , You said to get acetyl -L-carnitine. I have an amino here by the NOW brand and it says it's L-carnitine from L-Carnitine Tartrate. They have it patented it looks like with a " L-Carnipure " trademark.. Any saving grace? ~Robin

Well, not really. Acetyl l-carnitine is vastly more absorbable and bioavailable and also crosses the blood-brain barrier more readily. Also, I'd strongly recommend you consider buying pure bulk alcar powder instead of capsules or tablets. You can save a lot of money that way, even on small amounts, and you spare yourself exposure to all the fillers most companies use. -
