Guest guest
Hey , How do they determine if you have IC? What are the symptoms? I do not have frequent UTI's, but I sure did not like having a catheter inserted into my bladder while I was wide awake (yes, I actually fainted and woke up in a cold sweat screaming and trying to pull it out). The other time I had pretty thick camera inserted halfway up my urethra to check if a vaginal cyst on my urethra was being caused by a hole in my urethra (it wasn't). That hurt pretty bad also. I have had some instances of blood in my urine with no UTI, which occured for about eight weeks until Dr. Mangal decided to treat me with antibiotics for it (after surgery, cause the catheter gave me a real UTI)After I had surgery for endometriosis, I had a seriously hard time pushing the pee out of my bladder. For a couple weeks, I would feel a tugging in my left side after I peed. I could have sworn that I had a stone stuck in one of my ureters, because the pain came in waves only when I went to the bathroom. But, Dr. Berkman did an ultrasound on my liver to find out why my liver enzymes were so high, and I asked him to check the region where the pain was occuring during urination and the only thing there was my ovary (which had been removed from sticking to my pelvis). Why on earth would your ovary hurt when you pee AFTER it had just been removed from the pelvic wall?? I wonder if it reattached itself to my ureter after surgery... hmm wierd. wrote: Marilyn My cystoscopy's are sooo bad because I have interstitial cystistis. My MIL does not and having that procedure and the dilation of urethra wasn't painful for her at all. In fact, she could go back to work that day. Sorry to scare anyone from having it done. And yes, the numbing cream does help. I also have a mental block about that part of my body....just leave it alone!! Re: Re: Alien Abduction? OT I have a little concern for the girls, not to mention guys, on here that have never had a cystoscopy and will now think of it as torture. I used to have them frequently and the discomfort was not that bad. Once, accidentally, I had one without the numbing and it was tolerable. It was after the first time, having the urge to void and seeking the nearest bathroom in the medical building that I had a surprise. Caught off guard that first time, a little yell escaped but I have suppressed that since. My son was telling me how his doc conned him to having one at the time of a physical without him knowing what to expect. I had to laugh since they used to give men general anesthetic and hospitalize them for the procedure. They should at least give a shot of laughing gas, I believe. Guest guest
, IC is an inflamation of the bladder wall and urethra. I feel like I constantly have a bladder infection and UTI. At first, I was constantly going to the dr. complaining of pain, urgency and frequency, but had no infection. The urine tests would show very little bacteria, not enough to call an infection. A cystoscopy will confirm diagnosis by looking at bladder wall and seeing it red and swollen. It is very common among those of us with endometriosis and is considered a secondary disease to endometriosis. My uterus like to attach itself to my bladder and I have had 2/3 of bladder removed due to endo in and on bladder. So, yes anything inserted into the urethra is more painful for me. I see Dr. Chrisopher at Baylor Dept. of Urology. He is great and his nurse is neighbours with Nelda, Dr. lins nurse. Re: Re: Alien Abduction?
