That is so cute!

I wish I knew how to make macros...I was picturing the subquestion

" how do you treat other people " as a little guy with daggers coming

out of his eyes. :)

So when you think of answering the above question, do you think of yourself

as a guy?

Dear Steve,

I guess I'm an example of sexist language usage in America. I use

" guy " indescriminately, as in " you guys, " even if it's a group of

" gals. " And no, I do not think of myself as a guy, if I stop to think

about it, but I don't usually question my gender.

Did something about what I said bother you? Why did you ask the

question?

Carol,

I do that too, I holler up the stairs " OK guys dinner is served " and we

have a house full of women! LOL

I think of " guys " as similar to " people " . Ok people dinner is served,

seems more formal-detached from my connection with the people in my

house, " guys " feels sweeter somehow as my thoughts attached to the word

are relaxed and comfy..

Now I suppose if I took time to think about it a house full of men that

screamed, OK gals, dinner is served could sound different but I sense

that it would be in jest and just as sweet, as they are men and gals

could be a term of endearment. I could see it. Yep, sounds just as

kind.

I was raised very much Western European as a youth and then here in

California it is another whole other word culture, (no I don't say dudes

your dinner is ready) But for me to say gals, I sense I would want a

pair of cowboy boots or possibly a mint Julep or even a fan and a

magnolia tree.... yeah how is that for finishing a class on

non-judgments of culture and diversity? LOL geeze even a word can bring

up a movie in my head! I want long hair and a soft lilting voice. And I

want to blame everything on the heat. I can see it, who needs PMS when

the weather is perfectly reminding one of adjustment?

Gals, this weather is vexing me, your dinnuh is ready...

I am totally in jest and in story! (what was Steve's story?)

Also what is in a mint Julep?

I did it because I was wondering if was just a language habit as you

suggested or if you might have had a story that you might want to

investigate.

Hmm. This reminds me to tell people where I'm coming from when I ask

leading questions.

thanks

Steve

Hi, April. I found several recipes online, some of them quite

entertaining. The best one is probably the one at

http://www.thebucknerhome.com/julep/recipe.html

This one was pretty good, too:

http://www.foodreference.com/html/mintjuletr.html

There's a more modern recipe for a Georgia Mint Julep here:

http://southernfood.about.com/library/rec03/bl30104i.htm

And one for a strawberry mint julep here:

http://southernfood.about.com/library/rec99/bl90416f.htm

The common elements in all the recipes are sugar (a heaping teaspoon

per drink), a small amount of water to dissolve the sugar, alcoholic

spirits (bourbon, cognac, brandy, port, or some combination -- about a

quarter cup total), fresh mint, and finely shaved ice to fill the

glass. Some of the recipes insist that the serving glass be frosted by

stirring the ice around the inside.

I hope this satisfies your curiosity. :)

Tom!

Those recipes are magnificent! I think I will need to do a taste test!

Oh sugar and ice, we are talking " nectar of the Gods " ! I had no idea

what a pleasant drink that could be, I could gain an accent quickly for

the right to sip one!

Thank you! Yes, I had no idea that I was lightly referring to such a

grand splendiferous imbibement of gentility and southern charm, I am

truly humbled by such a delight! And will set up the snow cone maker

and as I do grow fresh mint in my garden I think I will pick up the

necessary ingredients tomorrow and partake of the ceremonial

embellishments of both strawberry and the classic Julep.

To be sure I do have an ancestral sugar bowl, alas it was not from my

ancestor, yet it is huge with a large silver top as all great sugar

deserves, and I will even find my grand goblet for this enterprise!

I think I will also call a celebration for those in my family who truly

appreciate any form of liquor and reason to partake! There is always a

great reason to have such family members, if not for the occasional

burnt turkey, certainly for the new recipe!

Thank you!

I thought you might have fun with that. Let us know how the taste

testing goes. :)
