Guest guest
Dear , I went on Levoxyl and Armour. Going on Armour was the best thing so far for me. It saved me and gave me the energy that I needed. You know your body and know when you feel right and rested. Good luck. By the way I go to Lawrence Mallette in sw Houston and he is much better then the goofballs that I saw before him. Kathy wrote: Hi all, I was just reading thru the posts trying to see if there are any other members near me. I live in Richwood/Clute so I could get a clue about how doctors around here treat hypothyroid instead of going north to Houston. My insurance requires me to select a PCP and so I really didn't want to choose a PCP out of this area. My TSH is 2.1 (range .3 - 5.5) and thats the only test my doc does. I am on synthroid 125mcg and I have tried to get my doc to try me on Armor but she says that she has put patients on it before but it wasn't steady and she didn't want to do it for me. I guess she doesn't want to go thru the trouble. I read some posts from saying that shes tried several and didn't like them. , could you tell me who they were so I stay away from them? I did get my doc to at least in the beginning to get me down close to 1-2 TSH. Because my first tests when they were coming out 4.4, she said that was normal and wasn't going to up my medication but I told her I still didn't feel well and she agreed to increase it. But now that it is in the 1-2 range she thinks everything is rosey. I told her I was still tired and and said I had sleep apnea (which a sleep test confirmed) and now I am on CPAP machine. Some symptoms went away like my daily headaches but I am still tired. You know what she thinks now? That the fact that I work shift work is the reason that I am still very tired. Yes shift work does make people tired, but I don't fuction at all on days that I work. Anyway, thanks for listening Kathy Wesselink Brings words and photos together (easily) with PhotoMail - it's free and works with Yahoo! Mail. Guest guest
It sounds like you may have some wiggle room with your Dr. Maybe you can convince her to run the Free T4 and Free T3 tests. That way, she will see the whole picture and see that you may have a problem with conversion. Do you know why you are hypo? Hashimoto's maybe? If you haven't been tested yet, maybe she can run an anti-bodies test. A lot of people who have Hashi's have a conversion problem. If you are on of those, then would it be possible that she put you on a combination of T4 and T3? It may be a little more manageable for her. (Less trouble!) Also, most folks feel better when their TSH is much lower. I hope that if you could bring lots of documentation, that possibly you could work with your present Dr. Good luck. Guest guest
, I live in Lake too, but I couldn't tell you who to see. However I wouldn't see Dr Amin. If your TSH is in the " normal " range he isn't going to change your dose. After agreeing that the higher dose of meds was what was making me feel better in the next breath he looked at my TSH and said we had to lower it and has been going down ever since, of course I have been gaining weight and feeling worse ever since we started lowering it. After arguring with him for about 9 months he finally said that I needed to see someone else and sent me to Dr Wiedman in Houston. He did give me Armour but a very low dose and I am about to dump him as he doesn't want to help anymore than watch the TSH. I don't think we have anyone great down here but if you find someone let me know. I'm thinking of going to Dr. R. that everybody on the list is talking about. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, He is on my insurance and much closer than the one I have an appt. with in Webster. Can you tell me more about him? Is he a slave to TSH? Does he test or care about adrenals or other hormones other than thyroid? What do you not like about him? Obviously, I am doctor-shopping… Thanks, Katy From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups ] On Behalf Of kathy wesselink Sent: Sunday, March 05, 2006 7:00 AM To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups Subject: Re: Looking for Thyroid doc in Lake , Angleton area Dear , I went on Levoxyl and Armour. Guest guest
We have heard mixed reports on Dr. Mallette. He must be a rather strong personality, as folks either love him or hate him. Guest guest
Dear Katy, He does care about other hormones. The reason that I like him so much is he works with the whole body and isn't about come here to my office let's draw some blood and then off with you. He listens to everything and evaluates very carefully. I went two years to another doctor and never did feel good. Mallette realized that what was normal for some was not normal for me. He sends you copies of the lab results with his comments too. No secrets. Good luck. KathyJan wrote: We have heard mixed reports on Dr. Mallette. Guest guest
Thanks so much Kathy! Do you have to push him to prescribe Armour if you’re on that? Do you keep your TSH lower than the “standard” 2.0 without him having a problem with it? Thanks again, Katy Jan wrote: We have heard mixed reports on Dr. Mallette. Guest guest
Greetings, Weidman is who I went to. Don't waste your time. He did nothing for me except collect my money. My test results were not even read some times. After gathering all of my records and reading them, I was shocked. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi , I live near the Med Center in Houston. In case you haven't heard this from anyone else, there is a database on the Texas Thyroid Groups website that has specific dr. comments, positive and negative, and also a list of docs that prescribe Armour. Good luck! karent143 wrote: ,I live in Lake too, but I couldn't tell you who to see. However I wouldn't see Dr Amin. If your TSH is in the "normal" rangehe isn't going to change your dose. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice, I am supposed to see doc tomorrow for a follow up on my back problem. (I have a crummy spine due to scoliosis and probably too much heavy lifting when I was younger) Bulging discs in lumbar and cervical, arthritis in cervical. I take celebrex for it and it seems to help. Except when I overdo or " jar " my spine or other things. I digress, when I see her tomorrow, I will bring up the othere thyroid tests and talk to her about why I am hypo. And maybe I will get somewhere with her. Sometimes I am not the best advocate for myself. I have a habit of saying everything is fine when I should be giving her both barrels about everything under the sun that my body is feeling. Boy, I have so many questions, but I think I will stagger them out in different posts so I don't overwhelm. Thanks, > > > > > > Hi all, I was just reading thru the posts trying to see if there are any > > other members near me. Guest guest
Well ladies, good luck, because I live in Angleton and have had 4 different doctors keep me undermedicated and sick all the time. Don't see any of them any more. There was a coworker who had started seeing a doctor over in Lake , but she quite, and I lost touch with her, so I never knew how it went with this doctor. He had her on straight Cytomel, but I found out that it was probably because he was going to do some sort of uptake or scan or something, one that she never did to the time that she left my workplace, so I still don't know much about him. I need to look his name up, as it's now been momths since that happened, so I don't remember. Don't know anything about what type of testing he did on her, at this time.
