Guest guest
another thing you'll find out about pain clinics is their knowledge thaty asa and tylenol can destroy the liver over time, never mind the stomach! that's why they would put you on say oxycontin instead of oxycodone and asa(percodan). same drug minus the asa and long acting ie 12 hrs. sunshine Re: RE: Ann and her meds > Kay, > Thank you for the info on tylenol. Guest guest
When taking a lot of meds that are tough on the stomach, shouldn't you be taking something like Cimetidine (Tagamet)? My doctor put me on it-a each night-to protect my stomach. Carol
Guest guest
Thank you carol for the suggestion about the tagamet but I am already taking sulcrafate and aciphex. Tagamet wasn,t strong enough. Thank you again. Ann --- CairnMom@... wrote: > When taking a lot of meds that are tough on the > stomach, shouldn't you be > taking something like Cimetidine (Tagamet)? Guest guest
If you're taking any type of narcotic pain medication (which many of us are), please check for drug interactions before taking taking Tagamet. I just found the following on Medscape: " Severe respiratory depression has been reported with the concurrent administration of narcotic analgesics and cimetidine. This interaction has only been reported with narcotic analgesics and cimetidine. Other H-2 antagonists may be less likely to interact. Additional studies are needed. " I apparently found this just in time - I started taking Tagamet as a supplement to my protonix about a week ago, and had noticed some difficulty with my respiration the last few days. I won't be taking any more Tagamet! - > CairnMom@... wrote: > When taking a lot of meds that are tough on the > stomach, shouldn't you be > taking something like Cimetidine (Tagamet)? Guest guest
I've gotten to the point that every time I'm prescribed a new med, or even think about taking an OTC med, I go to Medscape and check for drug interactions. I had been on tagamet before with no problems at all, so it didn't occur to me to go and check it when my doctor suggested that I add it back into my regimen to help control breakthrough reflux at night. After a few days of having breathing problems (not serious, but disconcerting) where there were none before, I thought that I should go back and check through all of my medications again to see what could be causing it, and ran across the below in my methadose interactions. I guess you really can never be too careful, and never take for granted even things that you've taken before with no problems. - At 07:02 PM 11/11/01 EST, you wrote: >> " Severe respiratory depression has been reported with the concurrent >> administration of narcotic analgesics and cimetidine > >I had no idea this could happen.
