I feed raw and today when I finished stirring my rye sourdough starter

there was the dog, eagerly eyeing me - so I let her lick the fork.

I haven't seen her so happy before - normally she looks like she's in

heaven when she has a bone, but this was something completely

different.

So, I've been toying around with the idea of fermenting some organs

for her. I never thought of it in terms of a dogs love of carrion.

But it makes plenty of sense.

Mati,

Sorry for the very delayed reply. I just haven't had a chance to catch up

with the lists lately.

Yes, I know of a few raw feeders who've burried carcasses for their pack.

LOL It didn't go as planned for one of them though because the calf carcass

was covered with maggots when she dug it up. Mmmmm...mmmm....good!

There's also a commercial dog food that's fermented. Although I've heard of

mold complaints.

In any case, I'm glad you brought this up because I used to ferment ALL of

my dogs' food and fell out of the practice several months ago. Your post was

a reminder to get back into it as my dogs digest fermented food much better

it seems. I usually mixed their food with mashed blueberries and kefir whey.

They LOVED it! I will get some kefir grains and start back up again now that

you've reminded me about it.
