Guest guest
Hi Steph, When I first started Levoxyl which is same thing, diff brand, I was always hungry for the first few weeks – but it tapered off. sue I have been taking 1/2 of .05 mg synthroid (lanett) for 3 days. Is it possible it is making me hungrier? I also added chromium so that's the only other thing it could be steph

Guest guest
I have decided to decrease the synthroid to 1/4 of 50 mg and see what happens. will keep you posted. I didn't take the chromium either, but I don't think that's it as I am also more anxious. steph
Guest guest
Hi Steph, I did not gain any weight for a full year on T4 alone — the extra hunger subsided quickly. I just lost 8 lbs recently so I KNOW how you feel about refusing to gain an ounce – it took me two years to lose that 8 lbs in a month (meaning I stayed the same, then gained for a year, then lost...) and I am not going backwards either! I just started my Cytomel today and did do just 2.5 mcg and will do the other half later today as directed to divide in two doses. I am hoping to rev my metabolism into gear so that my 1200 calorie hi protein low glycemic carbs dietary habits start paying off in weight loss! Sue did you gain weight???? I have finally started to lose and absolutely do not want to gain one pound!!!!!
Guest guest
My understanding is that when you start Synthroid you gain 5 lbs. and when you stop it you lose 5 lbs. That is what happened to me when I started and stopped it for tests prior to surgery. When I started it again, I gained again. But, I lost it with dieting....guess the fact that I can lose weight now means my thyroid is functioning properly again. Re: synthroid did you gain weight???? Guest guest
Dear , I definitely gained my 5 lbs. I haven't been able to take it off though. What sort of dieting are you doing? kathy Cauley wrote: My understanding is that when you start Synthroid you gain 5 lbs. and when you stop it you lose 5 lbs. Guest guest
I have never heard that before or known any of my friends who went through that. In fact, I was told you LOSE weight on the med and even my doc was surprised I was hungrier at first and then gaining. I have a good friend who lost 20 lbs in one year without trying while I gained that amount over two years... What we have to remember is that the thyroid is not always the culprit — there are many things that can go “awry” with our bodies as we age and also there are many other factors in play... It’s frustrating to say the least but when even diet and exercise don’t work, I had to look for those factors and reasons long and hard. What I am told is a metabolic syndrome I believe it’s called and I have to keep hi glycemic carbs out of my body – things like popcorn, potatoes, and most breads. These foods aren’t metabolized by me and turn to sugar than store as fat much quicker than in others. I was eating these foods as part of a low fat diet and had no idea they were my #1 enemy. Having eliminated them I quickly lost 8 – 9 lbs in a month and am now at 1 lb weight loss a week. sue My understanding is that when you start Synthroid you gain 5 lbs. and when you stop it you lose 5 lbs. I started WEigt Watchers and now I am impatient to get this weight off . All of this started because I am going to an important conference in March and I want to have energy and look good! Guest guest
One thing I do know is that 9 hrs sleep is an excellent amt of sleep and shouldn't be looked on as too much sleep. However, it should be refreshing sleep, not restless anxious sleep. This up and down thing in very short period of time bursts can be very confusing to your body. When you change over to all Armour, it would be good to stay on your dose for at least 6 to 8 wks or more, to determine what's what there. synthroid I got off the synthroid this weekend. It was making me anxious. LThe appetite increase and anxiety went away when I got off it. I think the reason why I had these symptoms is that I had also increased my armour 1/4 gr. about a week and a half ago. I think I probably need to give the armour increase more time. What do ya'll think? Then, instead of the sy nthroid, I think I will raise armour another 1/4 gr. In looking at my numbers, and as Jan had said, there is room to go up. I guess my TSH is out of range though. Is this of concern??? I certainly don't think I have any hyper symptoms except the anxiety when I added synthroid. I am still tired, have aches and pains and depression, have to sleep at least 9 hours and still don't feel refreshed. TSH was .09 range was .40-5.50 FT3 was 333 range was 230-420 FT4 was 1.1 range was .08-1.8 So I guess there is room for T3/T4 increase. questions, comments???
