Guest guest
I `ve been reading lots of your posts here on Asthma Group and realize just how lucky we are in the UK having NHS care (even though it does fall short so often in other areas of health care.. and is shockingly under-funded by the government!) We live in a fairly small village (Roslin) south of Edinburgh, with our own local Health Centre where we have 7 doctors, 2 nurses, 3 midwives, health visitors and lots of other visiting professionals and clinics/groups. We have our own dedicated Asthma Nurse with whom we can make an appointment at any time, and a drop-in Asthma Clinic every 3 weeks for all asthma sufferers and parents/carers. There is emergency breathing assistance equipment at the clinic from 9am to 5.30pm Monday- Saturday. All our children`s (under 16) medicines and equipment including inhalers, spacers and Peak Flow metres are provided free and freely replaced, as are all NHS services. We have the Edinburgh Sick Kids NHS hospital in Edinburgh with Asthma specialists and dedicated nurses available to us 24 hours every day of the year at an Emergency drop-in unit. I wish every asthma sufferer could have this level of care, especially all children as there is nothing more frightening than seeing your child struggling to breathe.
