Deanna,

Hmmm...read the article, and I think it is a bit

backwards...that is, it says that religion arose out

of agricultural practice. The problem that you come

up against in thinking in that order is that all the

religions state that they have been in communion with

God going way back.

Since the article spoke of Abrahamic Religions, I'll

use them as an example. Cain and Able, the first

descendents of Adam and Eve, would certainly have

known who God was, as they were only removed once from

the Garden. Even in the Garden--what was their first

job? To " tend the Garden " ...God before agriculture.

Abraham was nomadic--but was a descendent of Noah.

Noah and his family were the last people in communion

with God...hence the 'kill the straying'. So on and

so forth.

Further still, Judeo/Christian/Islamic belief all

state that in the beginning, there was one God, and

Man was in communion with God. It is through history

that we have tried to further distance ourselves from

the One True God. Hence, other religious beliefs.

I am not stating an arguement for one god or another,

here. I am only tracing a history or communion with

god before agriculure and am using the Abrahamic

Tradition since that is what was spoken of in the

article.

Long story short: agricultural practice, the sciences,

and the development of studies relates directly to

what our religion says about the world.

PS--It is funny if you think about it...Scholars say

Religion fulfills three roles. To define

Truth/Values. To instill Purpose. To define Reality.

Secular Society does the same. Therefore, by

definition, Secularism is the newest development of

Religion--with Man as God.
