Guest guest
Wow ...and I thought I was the only one with bad reactions to drugs. Thanks for posting...I don't feel so alone now. > > Yep, and I can't remember which one I must have referred to, but I have this reaction to a million and one of them, sort of like some ADHA children are calmed down by an upper (Ridalin?). I know that everyone is going to poo-poo this statement, but, I swear to you that caffeine CALMS me. Codeine makes me severely agitated, and that didn't start until Hashi's hypo happened. Don't know what I'll do, if I ever have to come under the knife again, stop breathing maybe? In the Merck, it is also stated that certain anesthetics that are used to put people under for surgeries are also thyroid hormone killers. Also, there must a list of 20 antibiotics that I have a bad reaction to, and the list keeps growing. Penicillins, supha drugs (which I used to take for UTIs, and are still the best around for that cause), aminoglycosides, and the class that Streptomycin and many others are in for very dangerous infections that can't be gotten cured any other way. I used to take different brands of the minor tranquilizers because I was probably in a hyper state (Hashi's beginnings), and they barely phased me, I just kept going like that little bunny. Now they slow down my breathing so much that it's almost like voluntary breathing, for the lowest dose possible (having to think to take a breath?), and, even though I sometimes have trouble sleeping, now and then, I could never take them again, for any reason. And, BTW, it is impossible to improve one of the anemias with much progress, until the hypo is mostly corrected, or at least a whole lot better, because hypo is the very reason why our bodies can't seem to process much of ANYthing normally, including our nutrients. I can't even immagine taking one of those poisonous quick fix diet pills, never have anyway, but one of those would probably send my heart into something it might not ever come out of, even though I'm not diagnosed with any heart problems, I just get the gut feeling that it would. I do look at aspirin as the basic wonder drug, because it does have some really good propeties for many things, but it will make ME feel like I'm in a major brain fog and in outer space somewhere, sleepy, etc.....I know that there are probably times that I've needed an antibiotic to help clear up a major sinus infection, but I've had so many bad reactions to most of them in only the last 7 or 8 yrs, that I'm terrified of them. > > > > Re: Adverse Reactions to Supplements, Drugs and Hormones > > > We have had some members who have had bad reactions to various hormones and supplements. This is not unusual. Folks who are hypothyroid often have bad, unexpected, or even opposite reactions to drugs, supplements and hormones. Those who have been untreated or undertreated for a long time often have more of these reactions. > > For this reason, I would advise caution when adding anything new to you regimen, especially if your doc is not guiding you on this. . . .or if he is, but does not understand how hypos react to new stuff. My suggestion is to add anything new in the smallest doses until you see how you react to it. > > I think it was " lilacs " who said that she became agitated when taking a drug that was supposed to calm her down. Go figure. . . . > > > -------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- >
