I would be curious about this too. But for a different reason:

My SO is severely allergic to Penicillin. However, he loves blue

cheese! I don't get it - wouldn't blue cheese make him sick if he's

allergic to Penicillin? Or is it possible he is allergic to the stuff

they culture Penicillin on (peaches I think)? So far I don't know if

he has eaten any live Blue Cheese, but I wanted to make him some.

Thanks!

Sincerely,

Well, the species they use for penicillin is different from the species

found in cheeses, but they are similar enough. Also, I think penicillin

today is synthetically or semi-synthetically produced, which could

possibly affect allergenicity.

I am deathly allergic to penicillin but I can eat blue cheese with no

problem at all.

,

Thanks! I was so worried there (last time he had penicillin he went

into a coma!) You've really put my mind at ease.

Now I'm going to start looking into some starters for some homemade

bluecheese. :) I can't stand the stuff but I'd be happy to get some

home ferments into him.
