Guest guest
, I am not sure what your question is. I have dealt with hypoglycemia for about 10 years now. And this past fall I found out I had a thyroid problem. Hyperthyroidism caused by Graves disease. I have read that in hyperT the body is functioning so fast that it either cannot process (counteract with insulin) all the sugars in the blood or it is using the sugars as fast (or faster) as they reach the blood. So either way I believe hyperthyroid can, but not always, effect the blood sugar levels. Plus sugar is known to stimulate the thyroid and make matters worse. I do not have blood pressure issues at this time. THANK GOD! So I cannot comment on the bp effects and low blood sugar. My bp was checked one time when I was having a really bad spell of low blood sugar. But is was on the low side, even though I could feel my heart beating. I was told that because of the low blood sugar that my bp had dropped. And that I could "feel" my heart probably because my body was fighting to function. Of course, that is speculation. Who knows what was really going on in my body at the time. I do know that when I eat at regular intervals I do not have a problem. Please let me what your question was and if I answered it or not. Maybe someone else can ring in here too. Kim M. Hypoglycemic anyone? On Monday when I was in to see the dr. because I was sooo dizzy and my blood pressure was 157/125 and pulse 99 they took a TSH and it was 0.648. I went for the hypoglycemic test on Tuesday and don't have the results yet. I faxed the notes below to the Dr. so that she would know how I am feeling now and not think that I was better because when I took the hypoglycemic test I didn't have symptoms until after the test. So the receptionist said that Dr. Marcus has a half day today and my chart was on her desk. The receptionist said she would call this afternoon to let me know what the Dr. says and to see if she wants to see me tomorrow. I feel terrible...can use any help I can get. I am thinking that it is a combination of the thyroid med increase and low blood sugar? Thank you for listening... Here is the fax: I went for the hypoglycemic test this past Monday. Didn't have any symptoms during the test but about an hour after the test before I ate something I got real shakey, headache, blurred vision, etc. I called yesterday to see what the results were for the hypoglycemic test but the test results weren't in yet and wanted you to know this information when you went over the tests. Since the hypoglycemic test I have been feeling weak, shakey, palpations, nervousness, light headed, etc. I am trying to change my eating habits. I felt very weak, shakey and palpations during the night last night and had to get up a couple of times during the night to drink a glass of orange juice and then later a glass of milk to try and keep my strength up from feeling the way I did. I didn't get much sleep at all either. Could it be my thyroid levels are too high? Or can Atenolol cause blood sugar problems? I am hoping that cutting out as much sugar as I can it will get better eventually? Maybe see a Nutritionist? Just looking for answers like everyone else. Cheryl wanted me to call in a blood pressure reading: 8:30 AM When I first sat down it was 122/88 pulse 70 and then after a minute of sitting it was 106/76 pulse 71. This past Monday I started taking Atenolol in the evening so that wouldn't interfere with the Levoxyl in the morning?per Cheryl (PA)
Guest guest
Kim, It was weird I couldn't just reply to your message I had to go back to my original message and reply for some reason. I was taking Atenolol for palpations a couple of years ago and have been on it ever since...I really didn't have high blood pressure at the time. But I quess my question is that am I feeling bad because maybe it is a combination of uping meds and not eating right? Or can thyroid meds or Atenolol cause low blood sugar? Any suggestions would be helpful. Wondering which way the dr. might go with this as far as calling it hypoglycemia because I didn't have symptoms until after the test? Can the test still show something? Today I almost feel like I am having the same reaction when I upped thyroid meds in the past...heart palps, burning sensation, I am about ready to fall asleep typing this...I guess because I didn't get much sleep last night. I am just hoping to find an answer to why I feel so bad. Guest guest
, I delt with Hypoglycemia for many years... The recommendation is to eat 6 times each day. Not 6 full meals, but have a nutritious snack in between meals to help maintain your bloodsugar levels. By the way, Orange Juice or PeanutButter are Excellent for when your blood sugar levels are off. Having Low Blood Sugar leves does NOT mean that you should eat sugar. What that would do is cause your blood sugar to spike up high and then crash down low again. Basically, what you should do is eat something that has a little bit of natural sugar in it with protein in it as well....hence the orange juice or peanutbutter. You sound very Hyperthyroid right now...per your symptoms you wrote about. And remember that blood sugar problems are a symptom of Thyroid Disease. Chances are, your thyroid levels being off is what is causing your hypoglycemia and your other symptoms, so if you are taking too much thyroid hormone, that could cause it, but the atenolol shouldnt effect it at all. I was actually taking atenolol at the time I had hypoglycemia and the atenolol didnt affect mine whatsoever. I was taking it for palpitations and miagranes. Hope you get to feeling better soon! God Bless! ~Amber > > > > On Monday when I was in to see the dr. because I was sooo dizzy and > > my blood pressure was 157/125 and pulse 99 they took a TSH and it > was > > 0.648. Guest guest
Amber ...thank you so much..I think you really answered my question...I quess I was wondering if being on the hyper end of the range if it could effect my blood sugar. I am also searching for better ways to eat or examples of foods to eat. Thank you again for your post! Guest guest
Now you got me curious about orange juice. I drink the Tropicana Grovestand too with Lots of Pulp and added Calcium. I didn't realize their might be orange juice with protein in it. I will have to check it out! Guest guest
The drs. receptionist just called. The dr. said my TSH was 0.648. I came from 3.89. The hypoglycemic test showed that I am not diabetic. The dr. wants me to come in to discuss it all but when I tried to make an appointment I can't see her for a couple of weeks! The soonest I could get in is Monday with the PA AGAIN! Fortunately she is pretty nice. I told the receptionist that I have an appointment next Friday for my women's wellness exam but the receptionist said that I can't discuss this then. It would be like having two appointments at one time...I couldn't believe it. I am getting a little disappointed that I can't see Dr. Marcus more. Will keep you updated. > > > > > > On Monday when I was in to see the dr. because I was sooo dizzy > and > > > my blood pressure was 157/125 and pulse 99 they took a TSH and it > > was > > > 0.648. Guest guest
I'm sorry I can't comment on the hypoglycemic but I did notice something in your post and hope someone can help me out here because I'm at work and can't look it up. If you take your blood pressure standing up, and then sitting down and there is a big difference, isn't that an indication of adrenal issues? Can someone elaborate on this please? Also, look up the side effects of Atenolol and see if dizzyness is one of them. > > When I first sat down it was 122/88 pulse 70 and then after a minute > of sitting it was 106/76 pulse 71. > > This past Monday I started taking Atenolol in the evening so that > wouldn't interfere with the Levoxyl in the morning…per Cheryl (PA) >
Guest guest
Kim, lol...I typed " or " instead of " and " I meant OJ AND peanutbutter. I wish OJ DID have protien in it! hehehe But the OJ and Peanut butter Works Great! I did the cheese thing too...I love those little sticks of string cheese. They come in individual packets, so it is very convienient. I used to carry a packet of nuts in my purse with me everywhere I went...for just incase. When mine would get bad, I would get the shakes So bad and end up passing out from it. Totally embarrassing! Since I had my RAI, I havent had any blood sugar problems. Its so nice not having to worry about shaking like that in public every again. ~Amber > > > > > > On Monday when I was in to see the dr. because I was sooo dizzy > and > > > my blood pressure was 157/125 and pulse 99 they took a TSH and it > > was > > > 0.648. Guest guest
Thank you . Where you diagnosed from a blood test? Or you just know it from your symptoms. I know it is my blood sugar...or my thyroid effecting my blood sugar but I had the Hypoglycemic 2 hour test and it didn't show that I was a diabetic or have Hypoglycemic. I didn't have any palps during the night but felt a little weak getting up this morning. After taking my Levoxyl about an hour later I had palps, shakey and nervous and sweating. I feel like I need to eat something. -- In Texas_Thyroid_Groups , " Cauley " wrote: > > , > > I also have hypoglycemia and have all the symptoms you described. Guest guest
Well, I wasnt hyperthyroid long enough to even realize it. I started out as Hypo then switched quite vigorously right when we found out I had autoimmune disease. Now, of course, I am back to HYPO again. **I feel like a yo-yo. lol I really wonder if the Radiation had a direct effect on my hypoglycemia. I mean..the Day I had Radiation (RAI) I stopped having blood sugar problems. Same thing happened with my Father-in-law who just lost the battle with cancer last year. --after his radiation therapy he no longer had diabetes. Makes me wonder... Anyways...Have a Blessed Day! ~Amber By the way...sorry i got everyone so excited about OJ with my little Typo. LOL > > Amber that makes more sense (OJ and peanut butter). Guest guest
Hi Courtenay, Thanks for your support. I will check into the Broda BArnes book. I just ordered the Sugar Busters book off line the other day. I already have the South Beach Diet book that I am using as a guide line. I think it is going to take me awhile to learn this new way of eating. I just answered Kim's post earlier and let her know about the day I had in case haven't read it I will paste it here..it's much easier that way: I think I am getting too much too Kim. I had another terrible day today. I got up this morning with no palps and calm...just felt a little weak. Then I took my thyroid meds and about an hour later I felt real shakey like low blood sugar, broke out in a sweat and bad palpatations with burning sensation. I take 100 mcg of Levoxyl right now in the mornings...two 50 white pills because I am allergic to the dye in the other mcg. In the morning I am going to decrease and am thinking of just taking .75 ...which would be a .50 and a half of a .50...at least until I see the PA Monday morning. I am so frustrated and know everyone has been there. I am trying to eat better with ...more protein and less sugar because of the shakiness. So with that and changing from taking my Atenolol in the morning with the Levoxyl to at night I guess my body has been in an uproar. Any support from anyone would be really appreciated....I cried today and asked my husband to hold me I was so down. He tries to comfort me but really doesn't understand the whole thyroid mess. > > > --------------------------------- > Amber ...thank you so much..I think you really > answered my > question...I quess I was wondering if being on the > hyper end of the > range if it could effect my blood sugar. Guest guest
Thank you Courtenay. You have been such a support. Just your putting a time frame on it has helped (ten days). It's amazing sometimes how just a little something sticks and says a whole lot. I really think I am getting too much thyroid meds...with the increase and then switching from not taking the Atenolol with the Levoxyl in the morning (it was probably causing not as much absorption of the Levoxyl?) and then with the diet change on top of that. I have so much heart pounding, burning sensation throughout my body with shakiness/weakness. It has to be pretty hard on my heart I would think. I go to the PA on Monday. I really don't know what my choices are. I just know that I can't go on with these symptoms not seeing an end to them. I just don't know whether to try and change to another thyroid med or will I just put fuel on top of the fire? Thank you again for your support! > > > --------------------------------- > Hi Courtenay, Thanks for your support. I will check > into the Broda > BArnes book.
