Guest guest
You might want to try some kind of alternating day schedule. I think Courtenay has a protocol for that which might be worth trying.stitnjaca1 wrote: I was taking 20 mcg of unithroid 2x a day and was not able to tolerate increas.Dr. R... gave me compounded Armour 1/8 grain to take 2x a day and also compounded DHEA 3 mg. I called and spoke to yesterday, and he sad that it would be ok to wait few days before I start on DHEA. I was afraid if I feel bad I will not know what is causing it and I might stop everything. I want to be extra careful. This morning about an hour after Armour I started to feel really weird. I am afraid what if I am even worse tomorrow? Does anybody have any advice for me? Should I start my DHEA? Was it better to start DHEA first then switch to Armour? What would you do in my situation? Guest guest
Dear Nevenka-- You might want to talk to about taking your Armour every three days for awhile, since you are having such a strong, strong reaction to the meds. I am very reactive myself, so what I usually do when introducing a new medication is follow a few simple rules: 1) Never start anything new around, during, or right after my menstrual cycle when my system is its most vulnerable. 2) Make sure to start new meds on a Monday. That way, in case of a reaction, you have an opportunity to call the doctor before the weekend. 3) Take new meds every third day. (Mon., Thurs., Sun, Wed.) for up to a month. 4) Repeat after one month-- meaning either increase the new med to every other day, or introduce second medication on alternating day using the same method. Usually, advises me on what to do next. Also, if I'm taking something new, or upping my meds, I clear my schedule of anything pressing so that I don't have to leave the house if things go terribly wrong. Really takes the pressure off. For those of you who work outside the home, I know this is impossible, so my best suggestion is that you try not to plan anything super important after work, and let the housework go for a few days. You might even arrange rides to and from work for the week of new medicines/dose increases. If you want to try it this way, contact , and ask him if he thinks its okay. Best-- Courtenay. --- Jan wrote: > You might want to try some kind of alternating day > schedule. Guest guest
Hi Courtenay. I did talk to today and he told me to take one thyroid pill instead of two a day (1/8 grain) until Monday. I was so bad today I didn't think that I will ever take another Armour. But in the afternoon I got my hypo symptoms, sleepy, no energy, so I took it again. It was not as bad as in the morning. It is always mornings that I feel very, very bad, a lot of adrenaline. I will see what will tomorrow bring. Thank you for your rules. Most of those I already follow. I am afraid if I go with 1/8 grain of Armour for long time that I will become very hypo. But that might be the only way to get better. Guest guest
Hi Jan or or whoever has a suggestion, Today is 7th day on Armour, 2x1/8 grain. I am tolerating a little better, but I don't feel any better overall. I am more fogy, have more anxiety and I am getting some weird attacks. I am not sure if they are panic attacks or something else. I suddenly become very weak, nauseated, breathing hard, almost not feeling arms and legs, don't even feel my breathing. It's scary. I take some klonopin and it helps. I spoke to and he will talk to Dr. R.. about it. I wanted to ask you guys your opinion, what would you do? My dose has been much lower now, from 40 mcg T4 to 1/4 grain Armour. I asked J.. if I should add some unithroid and he sad that he wouldn't. You are much more experienced in this, and I would appreciate it if you can give me some suggestions. Thanks, nevenka > > > > > > This morning about an hour after Armour I started to > > feel really > > weird. Guest guest
Dear Nevenka-- I would wait to hear what Dr. R says. I'm really sorry to hear that you're having such a strong reaction to the meds, but I am not unfamiliar with taking hormones that make me feel funky. , actually, was really helpful with getting my meds on track. My opinion is: do what you can to pamper yourself until you hear back from the doctor's office this afternoon. Best-- Courtenay. --- stitnjaca1 wrote: --------------------------------- Hi Jan or or whoever has a suggestion, Today is 7th day on Armour, 2x1/8 grain. Guest guest
Sounds like the same thing us "thyroid intolerant" people go through. I know it's very scary Nevenka, but hang in there and just wait for to call you back. Let us know what he tells you for I am experiencing some of the very same things with armour increase and cortisol.Courtenay wrote: Dear Nevenka--I would wait to hear what Dr. R says. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for the encouragement. I am trying my best, but life is not always allowing us what we need. I thing that most of what I feel now is from thyroid meds deficiency. I was on such a small dose when on T4, and now I take even less, so no wonder I feel terrible. I do have hope and I do trust dr R.. Yes, I do take iron and nothing else. I have prescription for DHEA 3mg, but sad to wait on that. Nevenka,One of the best pieces of advice I got when I started out similarly to what you are going through, is to try and be as patient as you can. Remember that this condition didn't happen overnight, and it won't get better overnight. It will take you some time to build up your Armour; it did me. If you're on a very small dose you will have terrible hypo symptoms for awhile. It just takes time, time, time and try not to worry. Are you supplementing with Iron? Hydrocortisone? DHEA? Metanx? Vitamins? Are you eating whole foods as much as possible? Until you can get everything supported and starting to function, and getting the right nutrients and oxygen into your damaged cells, you won't be able to tolerate enough Armour to get you feeling better.I feel bad for you and I understand as I was once where you are. I did actually get worse before I got better, but not for long. You are in the best of hands so try to be patient and rest as much as possible. My best to you~
