Guest guest
Hi! Raw egg yolks are never a problem from hens that don't receive antibiotics. When conventional hens are fed daily antibiotics in there feed, some of there eggs do have salmonella on the shell. Get the best quality eggs you can find, preferrable ones that have access to sunshine and grass, and are fed organic feed. I love raw milk tonics, I use 2 yolks, and I don't use molasses. Sometimes I mix a little raw honey in (like 1 tsp) and it tastes fantastic. I used to be afraid of raw animal products as well (besides milk), but as long as you know its a good source, its not any more dangerous than raw vegetables. I eat raw liver, raw ground beef, and raw eggs, and have never ever had a problem...in fact, it has helped my health tremendously. Good Luck, and raw milk tonics are very delicous once you get over the raw animal products fear. --- In , <monique7nuns@y...> wrote: > Thanks to those of you who replied to my 'Looking for CD (Crohn's Disease) Advise' post. I have recently gotten the Eat Fat, Loose Fat book by Enig & Fallon and I have decided to do the Healthy Recovery plan. (CD is mentioned as one of the conditions the diet can improve.) Doing this new diet will introduce me to the world of coconut, gelatin-rich soups, high-vitamin cod-liver oil (I've been taking the regular vitamin version from GOL), high-vitamin butter oil, lacto-fermented beverages and raw animal foods. The organic store here doesn't carry a very large variety of grass fed products outside of some beef they've imported internationally (?). There is however, a place I'm going to visit next month that carries a full line of raw dairy, grass fed beef, poultry, pork and so on.. I'm looking foward to that! > > Finally to my point.. one of the things mentioned in the diet is raw milk tonic for morning & afternoon snacks and it contains raw egg yolks. I'm having a little bit of a hard time wrapping my mind around consuming raw egg yolks on a regular basis like the diet suggests due to 1. the slime factor 2. ecoli bacteria that has been presented by popular media outlets as a danger associated with consuming raw or undercooked poultry. > > From lurking over the past few month I imagine a few people here have experience with this and I'm wondering if you can offer some advise. > > Thanks! > > > > > > + website: http://www.moniquesevenans.com/ > + email: monique7nuns@y... > > > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > for Good > Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. > >

I guess I missed that previous post, but my advice is to get a copy of _Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Intestinal Health Through Diet_ by Elaine Gottschall and follow its advice religiously, but with a native nutrition overlay. >The organic store here doesn't carry a very large variety of grass fed >products outside of some beef they've imported internationally (?). That's unfortunately common, for whatever reason. Do you have a farmers market nearby? You might be able to get much better grass-fed meat if you do. >Finally to my point.. one of the things mentioned in the diet is raw milk >tonic for morning & afternoon snacks and it contains raw egg yolks. Even with conventional eggs, the risks of consuming raw yolks are quite minimal -- something on the order of 1 in 20,000 is contaminated with salmonella. But if you seek out organic eggs that are from chickens which haven't been given antibiotics and other toxic swill, the risk is even lower, and the health benefits from consuming the yolks raw can be massive. As to the sliminess, that's from the white, not the yolk. A yolk mixed into a milk or cream drink won't affect the texture negatively at all. Have you ever had eggnog? That's traditionally made with raw eggs. The yolks are blended in and the whites are beaten into a stiff foam, which eliminates the slime factor. > From lurking over the past few month I imagine a few people here have > experience with this and I'm wondering if you can offer some advise. Although it has its uses, _Eat Fat, Lose Fat_ has a number of serious flaws. If you're trying to lose weight, chances are it recommends consuming too many carbs and too little fat. Some of its recipes even include white flour and sugar and the like! And if you have any kind of bowel disease, some forms of coconut might be problematic for you, and all forms of grains will be trouble. What I really recommend is eating a traditional, nutrient-dense diet -- but in accordance with the rules of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet as laid out in _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_. BTVC doesn't cover nutrition or macronutrient ratios much, but it is aces for digestion. -

To the best of my knowlegde, I do fine with both. I consume both on a pretty regular basis and neither has made my condition worse. -----> I also thought I did fine with both. I've finally decided to cut out wheat and most dairy.((after following a weston price diet for years AND reading people's stories of going no wheat, no dairy!) I've stopped all wheat and almost all grain in Aug. except for occasional wild rice in soups. I'm still having some raw dairy but have cut drastically down on it. My weight has slowly been dropping without trying. My wheat intake was ALWAYS long fermented breads or sprouted and not a lot... less than 1 piece/day. Now the few times I've tried wheat at parties I can tell now. My stomach digestion problems usually return the next day...constipation, bloating, mild stomach cramping, acidity. With raw dairy I find a small amount (a bit of cream in tea, cheese in an omelet, 1/2 cup of raw goat kefir) doesn't seem to bother me but huge amounts will cause a kind of gnawing feeling in my stomach and i start looking for food. I'm slowly moving my diet to far less dairy to see how it goes. -----> I use raw egg yolks almost everyday in morning workweek tonics. Just blend them for a few seconds. My husband and I use them for the brain food factors. I also use raw eggs in mayo, ice cream, raw custards, etc. They make dishes much richer in flavor and texture. However my eggs are pastured from farmers I know. I would never use raw from store eggs. Lynn
