Guest guest
What was your ferritin? The " normal range " and what it should be are two different things! Mine was 9(range was 10-1XX), it is best in the range of 70-90. When mine was last checked it was in the 30's, can't remember the exact number. Armour is best taken sublingual. Then you don't worry about food, it does straight into your blood. I put mine under my tongue. It take about 15-20 minutes to dissolve, well less time than that on a smaller dose. I nibble during the day too! Kate At 02:48 PM 1/9/2006, you wrote: >Thanks Kate....yes I have had my ferritin and cortisol levels checked >just a few weeks ago and they were in normal range. Guest guest
82 is great!! Wish mine was there. Armour can be taken sublingual or swallowed, there aren't two forms of it. Guest guest
There is no sublingual Armour. Some people just choose to take it that way. There is little if any benefit from taking Armour sublingually, as very little is absorbed through the mouth tissues. Most of what you get is what trickles down your throat. As for the food issue, many of us do take our Armour with food. We probably need a larger dose than we would, were we to take it on an empty stomach, as the prescribing info suggests. Consistency is the key. Then you can adjust your dose around your life, not the other way around. cowgirlgrams wrote: Thanks Kate!My ferritin was 82 Scale 10 - 291 So it is probably ok.I didn't know there was a sublinqual Armour! Guest guest
When in doubt, read the prescribing info. It says to start with 30 mg and make increases of 15 mg. Folks with good tolerance can start higher and move a little faster to their optimal dose. One of our favorite docs gives most folks three of the 30 mg pills per day, but lets them increase to the full three pills at their own pace. The other favorite doc gives most folks 120 mg.cowgirlgrams wrote: Sounds like our drs. back then went to the same learning school...starting too much too soon. I go to Dr. Yolanda Marcus here in SA...not sure how much education she has in Armour but when I was there the last time I asked if she prescribed Armour and she said yes...and she had this look on her face like she was wanting me to ask her to try Armour. She wouldn't have any problem in prescribing it but I wonder how educated she is in starting doses. I don't know anyone else on this board that goes to her yet. It also sounds like you have a very sensitive system like myself. Are you getting the palps and anxiety feelings with the increase to 60 mg ? Since I have been undermedicated on Levoxyl all these years...just in the last 6 months or so I noticed my eye brows becoming very thin and patchy. My hair has thinned a great deal over the years also. It hasn't been 6 weeks since the last increase so I am hoping maybe the Levoxyl might help with the hair and eyebrows. At least I have another option...patience is the key here like you said. Thanks for posting Courtenay and hope to get to meet you at the next meeting in SA. ..> > > ---------------------------------> > I have trouble with the dyes in Levoxyl....luckily I> am taking > two .50's which have no dye. Guest guest
82 is not optimal, as far as I know. What does your doctor say? How do you feel? Guest guest
Oh, I forgot to mention one thing-- I went on a two week sabbatical from all thyroid drugs before switching to Armour. Made the intial stuff much easier. I REALLY crashed on the Levoxyl, so I basically refused to continue until my doctor returned from his vacation. His colleague okayed it. Courtenay. Guest guest
Courtenay, I can't find the article right now, but the ones that I have read say better 60-90 is the best place to be. As for my doctor, she thinks that so long as it's in the labs range it's fine. We don't see eye to eye on that issue. What are you saying is optimal? I'd sure take an 82 over where mine is! Guest guest
It may be that getting it dissolved speeds the digestion process. I do know that some docs recommend chewing it.Terijo wrote: or, rather, taking armour sublingually. I started it this way some timeback. I was disappointed when I heard it was pointless to take it this wayand started swallowing again - and it seemed to become less effective. I dobelieve I get more action out of it sublingually - though I cannot swear toit. As it doesn't hurt, however, I keep taking it sublingually. I like thetaste/smell of armour and it dissolves very quickly. I don't doubt thatmost of it is swallowed - however I seem to absorbing something.Terijo Yahoo! DSL Something to write home about. Guest guest
Can't say my DH agrees with you - he doesn't like to kiss me if I've been eating piggy parts. :-) About chewing...it is good that it tastes and smells good like Terijosays it does... Guest guest
Symptoms! My TSH was suppressed and my Free T4 was over range. I had no idea that my leg cramps and arthritis in my wrists were thyroid related. I was amazed when both of those symptoms left 10 days into the Armour. Of course, nobody bothered to run a Free T3 at any time. After I was on Armour, I asked for and got my first Free T3 along with a Free T4. I established my credibility with my internist with regard to self-adjusting my doses. Both were just a hair above mid-range.cowgirlgrams wrote: Thanks so much Jan! Guest guest
Kate-- I'd have to look at my notes from my appointment with Dr. R. I'll get back to you on this one. All I know is that my iron and ferritin levels were quite low, but not completely anemic. My local doctor thought it was perfectly fine, but I wasn't tolerating Armour. Dr. R. put me on iron supplementation and my levels (energy) improved slowly but considerably. So did my ability to tolerate Armour, which at the time was almost nil. Regarding numbers and ranges, though, I'd have to check.
