Guest guest Posted January 6, 2005 Report Share Posted January 6, 2005 Seafloor mappers found that the area where the quake occurred slammed upward from 4000 feet deep to a final depth of about 150 feet. Other spots are even shallower now and ships can't pass where once they could. Can you imagine living on the prairie and seeing the land suddenly shoot up 4000 feet before your very eyes? Now I'm reading articles that say the seafloor only moved a few meters during the quake. I'll be irked if the Earthlink article was just bad reporting or they added too many zero's.
