Klonopin

I take Klonopin as needed for anxiety related to uncontrolled pain.

Right now I have good pain control and use the Klonopin rarely.

Hi Sondra,

Can you tell me what Klonopin is?? Is it a medication or is a natural tablet

to help with sleep-I have never heard of it before.

Hi,

Klonipin is like Xanax, but seems to be prescribed more often, as they feel

Xanax is mora addictive. Anyway, I thought I would answer you, didn't see Sondra

Hi, Klonopin is prescribed medication that is given for petit mal

seizures and panic attacks. I have been taking it for about 10 years

for PA's and CFS/FMS. I, like Sondra, take 1 mg at night to help me get

to sleep. I think more Drs. are prescribing it for CFS. Would like to

hear from anyone that has been taking it and if and how it has benetited

I am not a doctor that is for sure but I have had exsperiance with

Klonopin. Back a few years ago the Doctor prescribe it for me to help

Restless Leg Syndrome. It was a very strong and hard to handle meds.

Once I took it that night I went to sleep only to have problems

trying to wake up. ce I was on and what made me come off of it

was that and while my mother was in the hosptial back then having

surgery I met a few people who had relatives in the hosptial because

the side effects of Klonopin were so very bad that they were in a bad

way. One person was in comma in the ICU and he was only 23 and his

family feared he was going to die. If you are to take Klonopin if

this def. is the same one I was on I recomend speaking to the doc to

get more info on it. And make sure you understand every thing you can

before you even take the first pill. If it is being given for

Restless Leg Syndrom they now have a real good med out that works

wonders and that med is Requip. Well I am not trying to come off

being a no it all but this is my exsperiances with the drug.

Maybe for some people this is helpful and for me also for a few months

but then I found I had this feeling that it was dominating me and I had

to cut down over several months to free myself of this drug. I had

extreme anxiety at the time and it was perscribed with that in mind.

For my experience I would never ever take this drug again. But to be

fair I would never wish to be on any anti-depressants either again. It

seems I do suffer when taking many what I call brain drugs. This is my

conclusion over many years and I now realise the harm they have done me

in the past. Please note this is my experience not a general

Well thank you for that information. The doctor has not suggested it-I was just

listening on here to people saying it helped and I thought of suggesting it to

the doctor. Might forget it-I seem to be allergic to so many medications these

days that I do not think I will risk it.

I have been on Klonopin since 1991 and I have had no side effects at

all. It really helps my fibromyalgia and wouldn't even think about

asking to come off it. I experience a lot of the burning sensation

that fibromyalgia causes and I can take a klonopin and the pain and

burning go away. I say Kudos for klonopin.

As we often say, each of us is different.

I've been taking Klonopin for over 10 years. It's one of the few drugs that

hasn't given me any problems/side effects, as I'm also very sensitive to meds. I

started with a very low dose and worked up. But now I take less again. I only

take it at bedtime. It is a " controlled substance " and you can't just stop

taking it...you have to taper off. But it has helped me greatly--to be able to

sleep and also the quality of my sleep. It just helps quiet those " racing

thoughts " .

Hi Allie, anyone else with Klonopin issues--

(VERY Behind on my boards....)

I've been on this drug for a long time as well, first for panic attacks

as at that time nothing else worked; and everything else (not much of

any choices anyway) had really bad side effects. I've probably been on

this (or xanax, as I chose to change to a lower dose of klonopin from

xanax)for more than 10 years. Because I am an alcoholic/ addict in

recovery my psychiatrist (current one with whom I do not get along)

always tries to goad me into getting off. Well, she also does not

believe in ME/CFS. And at my last session with her when the Klonopin

topic came up, I mentioned two other drugs she prescribes (one an

antidepressant; I have ptsd & major depression); funny, she had no

answers on the idea of my going off either of THOSE drugs nor of the

KNOWN side effects as I have been on both for as long as I have

the klonopin.

It is addictive for anyone taking it on a regular basis just as any

drug which is classed that way is. If said drugis taken regularly

(daily) you'll have a dependancy and need to tape off it slowly to

feel as little discomfort as possible while doing so. (You can, I was

told, use teas which calm, preferably the very strong ones; herbals,

mixes of such).

Another method to come off it gradually is the water method which

someone emailed me but I am damned if I can figure out HOW to do it!!

IF the drug helps you, fine; take it, especially if there is nothing

better.

For myself depressionsI've had are so severe that I wind up becoming

suicidal quickly; and panic attacks I have are quite severe, more so

ever since I became more ill with the ME/ CFS thing. So, regardless of

the opinion of this particular shrink, I'm not changing. The last

pechiatrist I had a great deal more respect for and she did understand;

also not only believed in ME/CFS but had a friend (medical profes-

sional) who had it.

Don't know if anything here helps anyone, but this is my bit on

klonopin and serotonin antidepressants.

very addictive. withdrawal is way worse than anxiety itself. I wouldn't

give it to a child. Try something natural like theanine, or a supplement by

dr, whittaker called stress melts- which is chewable and a mixture of gaba

and theanine. Withdrawal is horrible. even if used 10 days. that's MY

experience. I would not use it on a child ever.

Hi Diane, if you use the " search " feature of our group and look for Klonopin, it

turns up several posts that mention it. So apparently some are using it in a

combination of meds. Let me know if you need help with the search!

Her OCD is peaking around the time she ovulates? My daughter had the opposite

problem. Her meds. seemed to stop working during her period (she had several

suicidal incidents during her " time of the month " ) I now have her on birth

control pills -- she doesn't ovulate and her periods are minimal, so the

hormones stay pretty level.

I'm not recommending this, of course, I'm no doctor. :-) And BC pills have

risks, too. But if you want to explore alternatives, might this be worth

discussing with her doctors?

Judy,that is scary.  lindsey my 15 year old has been on it for a few years..

The psychiatrist hated prescribing it for her because it is so addictive,but she

said she was in such a  crisis state we needed a quick fix and it helped! 

Since then we have tried slowly weaning her off but she goes downhill very

fast.  She takes it daily,but it really helps.

Hi Jennie,

I have very severe panic disorder and the klonopin is the only thing that

touches it, so I take it,. One bit of advice I have is when  you take your dd

off of it, wean her off very slowly, I mean shave the tablet every day for a

month. than the next month shave a little more off.If you don't , she will go

through an extremely bad withdrawal.
