Posted Sep 18, 2005, 1:31 PM ET by Adam Finley Filed under: Gripes, Outdoor, Print, Television Back in June, Kat posted about an ongoing battle centering around the " Got Milk? " campaign. Dairy farmers were asked to pay an assessment of a little over $4,000 a year, something many small time farmers had issues with, claiming that they sold raw milk, and that the ads were for processed milk sold by retailers. The issue has been hung up in the courts forever, but on Thursday the small time farmers were finally ruled against. Whether this is the end of the battle or not remains to be seen, though farmers who are against the assessments are definitely facing an uphill battle. http://www.adjab.com/2005/06/01/supreme-court-overturns-got-milk-ruling/ Supreme Court overturns 'Got milk' ruling Posted Jun 1, 2005, 6:15 PM ET by Kat Parr Milk. It's unconstitutional. Oh wait, that's not the right slogan. In case you hadn't heard, a lower court ruled the 'Got milk' ad campaign unconstitutional because farmers we're required to pay for the ad (as a part of the Dairy Promotion Act). For small-time farmers, four-thousand dollars a year isn't exactly chump change. Still, it's hard to imagine any ad campaign featuring for the Official Drink of Boy Scouts unconstitutional (regardless of whatever jokes we adults make about the ads. wink wink). The decision has been appealed, of course, so we'll let you know what happens next in this high-stakes, down and dirty legal race! ********************************************************************************\ ******** * * * * * I bought too much organic lard. Anyone interested? $9.50/32 oz. + shipping & handling. That's what I paid the organic farmer. Please send e-mail to me directly if you are interested. It is frozen.
