Guest guest
I wanted to check and see what you think on a few things... How much does asthma affect your job? Are you able to work full time with it? Would you be able to work without medication? For job interviews and applications do you tell them you have asthma, and do you ask for certain working conditions because of it? Some guy from church who found out I was having a lot of trouble from it, came over and offered some tips and advice on trying to control it by rooting out triggers. Their suggestion was to stay away from a lot of certain kinds of soaps, shampoos, anything aerosol, and things like that. They really liked the idea of the air purifiers that I use and commented on that. They gave me a list of some of the soaps and stuff they use that dont bother their asthma, which was pretty interesting. Especially considering they must have spent a long time figuring that out. On the flip side, its a bit frustrating because this person only has allergy type asthma and doesn't have the elements of night asthma, exercise-induced type asthma, and has it under control and thinks these ideas are magic bullets and that they kind of expect me to be around and like 100% in less than 2 weeks...they seem to think going out doing sports, bike riding, and other things help them have less trouble. It was great to have someone help out and to share ideas with on controlling it, but very difficult too because the scenario this person has with it is different and they seem to be able to get by without medication, and have no trouble at work (partly because they're the boss); whereas I need medication for it badly, yet the medication fails to control the asthma at all. So now wife's relatives, who are the ones that live close by us, who have had trouble believing it in the first place and are jerks sometimes, are expecting me to be just like this other guy.
