let it heal yes you need to move around to keep your lungs clear,

and I know it hurts but keep doing what your doctors tell you and

have you talked to the respiratory therapist about how and when you

should take your meds? sometimes they have insight that the DR. do .

the best way to get better is just to relax. do not get stressed out

about anything. this sound easy but when you try to do it it is the

hardest thing to do.

Well ...when I'm really sick like that I just have to sleep and NOT MOVE AT ALL. I know this sounds bad, but just any movement at all really compounds severe asthma. Have someone else do the housework, and don't move except for potty breaks and hot sauna/showers...This may mean sleeping way over 8 hours, but you have to remember also that with severe asthma we're ultimately trying to avoid having emphysema more than we are worrying about competing in the rat race. Some people who underestimate the problems of asthma will scoff at this and tell you to be more active and do more exercise...someone with mild asthma can do this...but it will be killer for someone with severe asthma and pneumonia. I've had family also notice how I can't move around at all when having asthma problems...this has probably been what's kept me alive till now. When you that sick you just have to shut down and get your mind on books or puzzles and limit

activity. You will be compounding the problem by any exposure to cold air as well. I hope this helps some...I realize you may already be doing this... When my asthma flares up real bad I find that I can't move at all

either. I feel like I weigh a thousand pounds and any effort to move

is next to impossible! Lucky for me my family also helps out a lot.

I hadn't realized that asthma could turn into emphysema...makes sense,

just hadn't thought about or heard about it.

Wow Noah

This is what I love about this forum, when you find out you are NOT

ALONE with what's happening to you.

What you said about the mild asthma and being able to exercise. My

Doc said I had to loose the weight, when I was first diagnosed with

asthma, which I did successfully (45lbs) with diet and walking around

our local lake's trails, usually, two, three kilometres every day.

That was the summer before this last one. Now after a couple of

treatments of prednisone because I have been so ill recently, I can

barely make it across the bookstore without wheezing, and the

inability to do more than crawl out of bed to get to the bathroom on

my really bad days, is a frightening reality of just how debilitating

this disease can be. Somewhat selfishly I guess, I am glad I am not

alone, I wish for all our sakes I was. But to be able to learn more

about the " Mighty A " from all your experiences, and how to combat it

is an incredible help, thank you.

There is one upside to all of this,at least I have an excuse not to

shovel all the white stuff that has dumped itself over Ontario, and

mostly on OUR driveway!!!!
