Guest guest
Hi all. I am 35 and have recently been diagnosed with adult onset asthma. It is pretty severe. I have already had two week long hospitalizations, and this was just diagnosed in early August. I have had allergy testing, and have come up with no allergies. So, we have absolutely no idea what is triggering this. My dr has just gotten me approved for Xolair, but all the literature I see says that this is for allergic asthma? Is there anyone else taking this who does not have allergies? How is it working? I am really willing to try most anything. As of now I am a walking drugstore, and I have had little relief. Also, I am trying to recognize my early symptoms before they turn into an all out attack. I have noticed some moderate lung pain and general chest tightness a good bit. Is this normal? Will you guys share some of your early symptoms? I know they are different for everyone, but there may be things that I recognize. Thank you. Guest guest
That's interesting that you got approved with no allergies. Xolair as made a world a difference for me but I have had a history of severe allergies -dog, dust mites, and mold plus hives. Smoke, stress and severe cold air still can irritate my lungs but if I avoid them and take care of myself I seem to be ok. I can tell at the end of the month when I need another shot. Maybe ask your doctor why he is prescribing it and why he thinks it will make a difference eventhough your test came up with nothing. If you are having tightness and other symptoms you should follow your action plan and record your peakflows on a daily basis if your drug therapy isn't working let your doctor know. Take care of yourself.slim8972 wrote: Hi all. I am 35 and have recently been diagnosed with adult onset asthma. It is pretty severe. Guest guest
I am not sure what IgE is, but I know that my count is very high. I thought it was a measure of your allergic reactivity, but the skin testing came up negative for everything. So, I guess I may be allergic to something that is not tested for. Anyway, my dr said that my IgE count (467) qualifies me for the Xolair. > Hi all. I am 35 and have recently been diagnosed with adult onset > asthma. It is pretty severe. Guest guest
I think if I remember correctly, it's a protein of some sort. My doctor explained it to me, but I've forgotten. She even told me the range you're supposed to be in to qualify to get Xolair.I qualified, but my insurance would only pay a small portion. My cost would be $3,240 a month! When they told me that, I just about had a coronary! So, I'm going to take my chances and just get regular allergy shots and take the Epipen. $3240 is more than 3x my mortgage. I think the insurance company is on crack. I am not sure what IgE is, but I know that my count is very high.
