When ever I'm having mucus build up like that, I'm headed for an Asthma attack. Don't you have steroids. Since I've started using honey and green tea, I hardly have attacks.

Med question

I am having trouble with mucous building up in my chest. I am not able to cough it out, but when I sneeze it comes out. (Sorry to be gross.) Is it Gaufinisin (sp?) that helps break up mucous, or is that for coughs? I do not have a cough at all, but I need to break up this mucous in my chest so I can breathe easier.

I have Flovent, Advair, Singulair, and a rescue inhaler; however, like someone else said, I tend to stop meds when I feel well, which is not good, so now I am having tightness from all the mucous, which can send me into an attack. I need to clear my chest fairly quickly, and then I resume my meds and take them like I am supposed to.

yes, guiafenesin is what will thin and clear the

mucous. Get some mucinex (or generic equivilant) tablets. Drinking

lots of water will also help thin the mucous to get it out.

Flovent and Advair?? Ask your doctor if you should be tanking both

of them. Flovent is part of Advair.

Yes. Guafenisin (sp?) does break up mucous. I take a 400mg tablet

every six hours. You can buy this over the counter at any drug

store. It is known as Mucinex (or there are several generics that are

cheaper).

I had asked you before about that, but when I asked my doctor he told me to stay on both for some reason. He didn't explain why though.

Does it work quickly, or is it something you have to take awhile to see results. I am very impatient. ;-)

I'm curious about this mucous issue...are there certain illnesses related to mucous only, that aren't really considered asthma type issues, and how are they different?
