Guest guest
Yikes, i'm about to put in an order for a case of Blue Ice for a bunch of people based on the belief they do not add synthetic vitamins. Why does Blue Ice make you sick I wonder? Elaine > Am I the only one that is really frustrated with this whole CLO issue! Guest guest
Oh dear! Is blue ice bad?!? It's expensive stuff, I sure do NOT want to spend money on it if it not going to be good? I thought blue ice was a good brand? What are some others experiances with it? Blue Ice just made me feel sick. > > I don't like to take supplements. I like to rely on whole foods. Carlsons would have me burping up to 12 hours later. We have to consider however, that even the highest quality oil is still extracted, bottled, preserved, and shipped. There is no substitute for the real thing. And yes, I am amazed at the cloud of mystery concerning CLO and its extraction process. I haven't gotten a straight answer from anybody, just the generic " that is proprietary information " . Garden of Life's product for example says it can be left at room temp for days. I just don't get this. I understand that they all HAVE to add some sort of preservative as CLO is highly prone to rancidity, and would never make it to store shelves otherwise. Another issue is if the oil is heavily flavored (lemon or otherwise) we might never know if/when the oil is ever bad. Oh and on Blue Ice, if your concerned with " fishy taste " , go with the mint flavor. The orange version has less of a masking..... I believe that's what the vitamin E is for - to preserve it. That's where the soy extract comes into the Carlson's. BI uses Rosemary oil for the same purpose. I am sure GoL is also using something, even though they don't declare it on the labels. -Pratick __________________________________ Messenger Show us what our next emoticon should look like. Guest guest
My pediatrician had recommended Nordic Naturals. My baby likes the peach flavor (it tastes pretty good - strong peach flavor). I just ordered some lemon and orange to try out (they also have a strawberry flavor): http://www.nordicnaturals.com/ I emailed Nordic Naturals and asked the following questions: > 1. Does it contain other oils like soy oil? It contains fruit oils depending on what flavor you choose also which of course are the flavorings, it contains soy lecithin which is included in the mixed tocopherols. They are the antioxidants. > 2. Does it contain synthetic Vitamin D or synthetic Vitamin A? No, all natural, they are naturally in the liver of the cod. > 3. What kind of Vitamin E do you use? Soy lecithin > 4. Are any artificial sweeteners used? no > 5. Do you manufacture the " natural flavors " (if so, how are they made)? Or > are they supplied by a third party? The natural flavorings come from a third party manufacture. -Dan

I guess I was just hoping this would be the pure product I was hoping for. It was very strong tasting, made me burp a lot, and I felt queasy. That said, I may be sensitive to CLO because I can't seem to find one that doesn't make me burpy and queasy. The vitamin content is certainly higher with the Blue Ice. All the processing involved just makes me nervous. At one of our WAP chapter meetings, we watched a video of Sally Fallon speaking about the extrusion process used to make many manufactured foods like cereals. I was blown away by how this high heat and pressure process destroys food and makes it harmful. I know CLO has a totally different processing procedure but the fact that I can't even find out exactly what it is makes me uncomfortable. My husband and son take Nordic Naturals CLO daily with good results. My son's eczema stays in check as long as he gets his CLO and my husbands sleep is better with CLO. Nordic Naturals makes me really itchy. I did some research and found that their product is " molecularly distilled. " I can't find it on their website now, but at one point it said they used Blue Green Algae in the " distillation " process. I am allergic to Blue Green Algae so that explained the itchiness for me but I mean honestly, what at they doing? What is this distillation process? I just wish I could find one I could take and feel good about. Oh well, Kim
Guest guest
Well I'm a bit frustraited too. In NT it says (I'm paraphrasing) " Good thing CLO is one of the cheapest supliments around! " Um, yeah, but all the cheap ones are garbage!!!! > Sorry, I didn't mean to imply it was bad. I guess I was just hoping this > would be the pure product I was hoping for. And yes, I am amazed at the cloud of mystery concerning > CLO and its extraction process. > Terry > > Terry, Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I wonder is there ANY way to get the " real thing? " I wonder how they used to produce CLO? I know there were severe rancidity problems in the past but I wonder if it could be produced to the same standard that Westin Price was using. We supposedly have a butter oil available that is similar to the one Westin Price wrote about (Green Pasture's X-Factor Gold High Vitamin Butter Oil) but I wonder how today's CLO stacks up against what was available in Price's time? Not that I believe everything he says, but Aagonus told me that all CLO available today is contaminated from processing. He said back in the 70s you could get capsules and when you opened them they were cloudy. He said those were the last available that were OK. I know he has some pretty out there claims, but his comments about modern CLO got me thinking when I started investigating processing procedures, I could not find any good information. There really is no way to know what they are doing at all. I don't want to freak anybody out, but shouldn't we be able to know with certainly what we are talking about when we speak of CLO? I mean this is one of the cornerstones of the WP diet. Kim
Guest guest
I was in contact with a canadian WAPF leader and she said that WAPF is no longer endorcing Nordic Naturals, that it wasn't very vitaminly (new word LOL) dense. ::shrug:: Maybe we should just all make pickled cod livers LOL. --- In , " Dan Corrigan " <dan@m...> wrote: > My pediatrician had recommended Nordic Naturals. I can't speak to the nutritive value of Blue Ice but I can say that I've been taking it since right after the WAP convention and I have had zero difficulty with it. I'm at the point where I take two swigs out of the bottle per day and seem to be consuming about a tablespoon to a tablespoon and a half. No burping and I can't taste the oil after about 30 seconds. I never had trouble with Carlson's or Sears' Labs, either, so perhaps I'm just designed for CLO or fish oils. I did have an interesting experience once when I got sick, though. I tasted my morning dose all day and it was awful. I'm still wondering what that was all about. Ron
