Todd,

I don't know that our versions conflict. I didn't mention the cloak

with the roses, which he brought back to the mission, where he worked

IIRC. He was a full-grown man, with grown children, and something of

a " simpleton " and " boy-like " although some detractors insist he never

existed at all.

The alter, certainly, had been razed as worshiping the indigenous

gods was illegal. I'm not saying it wasn't a true miracle--I wasn't

there--only that it was very convenient politically for the church.
