I am new to IOWL. I have listened to a number of her podcasts and have just

purchased the book. I know she said to start a group...get connected. I would

love very much to get on this right away. All of my girlfriends are 125 pounds

or less and don't care about this kind of stuff, which is where I would like to

be at some point!

So, I am at a loss for friends who are interesting in losing weight, eating

better, and dealing with their psyche.

I live in the Logan Square neighborhood. Let me know!

Thanks so much. I just thought it would be fun to see if I could find anyone in

my area for more of an in-gathering on top of the support here. Thank you for

the welcome!

I am just starting out but having trouble lifting my spirits. I am very down on

myself and I am having trouble turning off that part of me.

I feel like I need to somehow lift my spirits a bit in order to really get gung

ho and get moving on this. I listen to the podcasts in my car and just started

her book. When I take in all she says, it makes so much sense. I answer her

questions to myself and feel like I get it and want it. Then I get home or

wherever I am going and feel hopeless....not sure what exercise I could do or

episode I could listen to that might better deal with that.

I can't figure out how to be my own friend and support myself.

ugh.

I know this board is meant for positivity, but that is just not what I feel at

the moment. However, that is what I want to feel.

Thanks

Hi Kelsae or Mom:

One of the earliest podcasts (I'm not sure of the number but within

the first 10) addresses the Walt Disney technique of creating by

putting the critic away first. This might be helpful to listen to as

it can be applied to shutting off the negativity that you are feeling

while you go explore how you truly want to feel. I recommend doing

the exercises in the book and podcasts and journaling so you get it

out of your head and start to develop an arsenal of tools to turn to

when you need help.

What always helps me when I'm slipping into negative thought pattern

or beating -up- myselfdom is to simply ask solution oriented

questions: How do I want to feel? What is the lesson I need to

learn from this experience? What positive action can I take right now

to feel better?

Hope this helps! Feel free to share whatever you need to positive or

not so positive.

Hugs,

We wouldn't be here if we didn't all have our own issues. No need to worry about

that. Could you make a list of all the things you like about you? I did that

once and it felt very uncomfortable, but it does open your eyes. I have a hard

time believing all the good things people say about me too. Give it time.

Kelsae,

Just keep on listening and writing in your journel. Also, start with the first

episode and SLOWLY work on the podcasts. It takes time for everything to sink in

but if you persist you will definitely see a difference in yourself in the

future.

Great to see you as part of our group!
