I can recommend some mail order sources, or if you have any local farmers'

markets, you could try those.

I've gotten my chicken feet at Whole Foods, although I've seen them at the

Asian grocery stores in the area- freezer section.

organ meats or feet etc. They only have little tubs of frozen chicken livers

or prepackaged unrefrigerated ham hocks. The butcher told me it was because

they couldn't get enough money per pound to justify the overhead.. Now the

other local market here isn't carrying them either because, they said, the

rancher they use is retiring and the new guys don't want to bother with the

cheap cuts..

Yeah, I'd be interested in mail order sources.

Does anyone know if I have to worry about the quality of the feet?

When I buy liver, for example, I want to be real careful to get it

from a good source as the liver is a filter organ.

Does the quality matter much less for feet?

I'm a big fan of West Wind Farms. They're on the web at

http://www.grassorganic.com/.

Well, it's definitely more important with organs, particularly liver, but I

wouldn't say anything is really unimportant.

I use Oaklyn Plantation, when my local suppliers are out.

http://www.freerangechicken.com/

Their chickens are free range, organic. I believe they do use soy as a mix in

their supplemental feed, but they claim it is organic, and that all the

ingredients for their supplemental feed are grown organically, by them.

Did you ask them if they would special order them for you? My WF would

special order chicken hearts for my pets. It had to be 10 pounds. They'd

package

them into half pound packages for me, and keep some of it in their freezer,

until I had room enough in my freezer for them. I told them to feel free to

sell

some of it to anyone who wanted some.

Such great service! That was the Kirby WF in Houston. I moved away, and

really miss those folks.
