I looked on the Wiki for this topic, because I know we have

hashed it over repeatedly, but alas, I did not find anything on the subject of

processing credit cards.

I have dragged my feet on this about as long as I can. Now

at least 2 or 3 times per week I have patients show up with a Visa provided by their

insurer to cover their copays. Processing credit cards is just another

unfunded manadate, but I better get on with it.

My cursory review: If my bank does it, they want $428 for the

card reader, a $42 per month fee plus 3.3% per transaction charge.

QB can be used for $60 setup fee, $80 card swiper, $17.95 monthly

charge, plus $20 per month minimum on the per charge processing fee.

Pay Pal Website payment standard has no up-front charges,

just 2.something% per transaction fee. For $30 per month can add the

virtual terminal, but don’t have to.

I’m thinking the last option sounds best. What

do you guys use?

With no VT, I would just have the patient log on from one of my

computers. I guess I would need to put copay’s as a “purchasable”

item somewhere on my web site so they can select the appropriate copay amount

and proceed to checkout……

Is that how it works?
