Guest guest
Nina- >If anybody could help me with my problem I would be very grateful... >it would be the best Christmas present I could ever get, to tell the >truth. I can't recommend _Breaking The Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall highly enough. There's simply no better diet for healing intestinal problems of any kind. That said, you should modify it in accordance with NT principles. Don't eat things BTVC says not to, but otherwise make sure to maximize the nutrient density of your diet -- organ meats, CLO, good butter, homemade bone broths, etc. Fiber is highly overrated, much like the 8 glasses of water you're supposed to drink daily. You might benefit from cutting your fiber intake (eliminating grains for sure, maybe at least temporarily replacing coconut milk with coconut oil) and boosting your fat consumption irrespective of whether you adjust your net consumption of carbs. Good luck, and happy holidays! -
Guest guest
[Nina] I eat three pieces of radish kimchi with each meal, so fermented foods is covered. [MAP] It's nothing less than comical to conclude that " fermented foods is covered " ! First, you're dealing with a fairly weak probiotic food, albeit a wonderful one for so many reasons. Second, you're dealing with very small quantities. By no stretch could this be considered a medicinal usage of fermented foods, and a serious condition like IBS certainly demands medicinal dietary components, not mere business-as-usual healthy food. There is a vast range of probiotic fermented foods offering distinctive benefits (different sets of microbes), and the most powerful are ones that have bacteria and yeast in symbiosis, not just the bacteria of kimchi and most veggie ferments. If it were me, the very highest priority would be to add water kefir and kombucha to my diet, both of which are based on SCOBYs. Of course, if you're okay with casein, then kefir is a no-brainer, arguably the ultimate medicinal probiotic fermented food. Beyond that, seeking probiotic variety would be sensible, such as eating more than one kind of kimchi and brewing different kinds of water kefirs. Happily, all these foods are extremely inexpensive, easy to make, and generally delicious. Guest guest
<By no stretch could this be considered a medicinal usage of fermented foods, and a serious condition like IBS certainly demands medicinal dietary components, not mere business-as-usual healthy food.> Wow, I guess I never thought about it like that, although I had a hunch that I probably wasn't eating enough. I did have some kefir grains a while back, although they were in milk, and once I found I had a dairy allergy (both lactose because of my Asian heritage and probably casein too) I threw them all out... big mistake, I'm guessing? Anyway, thanks a lot for the tips; now I have to go look for some kefir grains. Anyone have any to spare? Happy Holidays, Nina

I'll go check it out from the library as soon as I can; from the website it looks good and doable. Thanks again and Happy Holidays, Nina

Better stay away from that tiramisu as it has both dairy and gluten in it! Try rice pudding made with coconut milk and rice. Things that come to mind are: 1. ovarian ca. (easily put out of mind with a simple lab test, a CA125 test which can indicate ovarian ca. or endometriosis), 2. endometriosis, 3, colon ca., or 4. other pelvic ca. So, a CA125 test. If normal, a flexible sigmoidoscopy with simple stool test for colon ca. (i.e. see a Gastroenterologist). But try the gluten free diet in the meantime while you are getting in to see your general practice doctor to get your CA12 checked. Make that GI appt to immediately follow your CA125 test results. Your GP will refer you for a gyn appt if your CA125 is out of the normal lab range. None of these lab tests will be a big deal. The biggest one is the flexible sigmoidoscopy and the worst part of this is the fasting and pre-procedure prep.
