, I just had to add that as crazy as it sounds, the gut

responds to the same chemicals as the brain does. One

source I read mentioned how the gut is sometimes referred

to as the 2nd brain, not literally of course, but the similarities

in reaction to those neuro compounds can be striking.

Nicely said! I had been skimming this thread and there was something

nagging in the back of my mind that I couldn't quite grab ahold of. There

it is.

This secondary nerve nexus that enervates the gut seems to be a real key to

a lot of things that have yet to be discovered. If that model is correct it

makes complete sense that anti-depressants would alter gut function in a big

way. Come to think of it -- isn't Jordan Rubin one of the guys who

discusses the " gut brain " quite a bit?

I guess I should've responded at greater length.

Yes, there are lots of neurotransmitters in the gut, the gut has certain

similarities to the brain, there's something called " the gut brain " ,

etc. That doesn't alter the fact that (a) antidepressants are very harmful

and (B) prescribing them for bowel problems is applying a bandaid to the

symptoms while not addressing the root problem, which can then continue

getting worse.
