Guest guest
>>That said, nursing is a very intimate activity, rather exclusive of others even if the mom can keep having that conversation, she is multi- tasking in a way that removes her focus from the other person in the conversation and makes it plain that she is more tied to the infant than she is to the conversation. This is what frequently offends the other adult - it goes right to their own inner child and says that they are not as important as the new little person - you just trip all over the other adult's issues. Of course it is uncomfortable!<< I just had the most passionate, convoluted theological debate with a neighbor who was nursing her munchkin the whole time. An experienced nursing mother can continue a conversation almost unaffected.

Of course it is uncomfortable!<< Say what? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read about breastfeeding. In the first two weeks of my nursing relationships with my daughters that may have been true, but it becomes a routine, ho-hum sort of activity after that--as much as I enjoyed nursing, and I really did. (And I'm glad I'm not any more!) An adult who gets that offended that easily must have trouble having lunch with friends; after all, if their companions are eating their linguini with gusto they must be paying more attention to their hunger than the conversation. How offensive!
