OT:trying to follow posts

In addition to Todd Slater's comments:

The most frustrating thing I have found here is an interesting topic

completely lost within the body of the message because people have no

idea how to trim their posts to a FEW words but insist on including the

original and complete pragraphs and some have lots of these " >>>>>> "

then think that putting little marks in front of their own response

helps. It doesn't, it makes for a very messy post. It becomes too darn

time consuming and laborous trying to determine what the individual's

response is, sifting through 15 paragraphs that are 20 lines each to

find a 6 word response. ARGH!!

My opinion: If someone is following a thread then they already read the

same post you did, they really don't need the whole darn post reposted

and dissected to understand your response. You can pick a sentence or

two out of a paragraph and post your response below it, which is still

dissecting it but easier to follow than a bunch of messy formatted lines

with these additional mess makers >>>>.

I've been on several email lists since 1996 and before that spent time

in the wonderful world of newsgroups. I've endured hardass moderators

and lazy moderators. Heavy volume lists usually have specific posting

rules that aren't that hard to follow once you get the hang of it. If

you chose to not follow the rules they think nothing of putting you on

moderation and teaching you how to properly respond to posts. LOL

One of the rules on the very first email list I ever belonged to was

that your response was at the top and the TRIMMED post you were

responding to was below it. I still tend to respond like that most of

the time, though once in a while I will dissect a post as described

above. It looks neater to me and I don't have to waste my time

scrolling through a repeat of post searching for the response(s).

Most of the time I find this list extremely informative and being a

beginner trying to understand the concepts of Nourishing Traditions,

it's invaluable. ..but lately...wow.. the OT posts and the messy

responses have been just crazy! LOL

Here I am contributing to the mess, eh? Pot. Kettle. Black. Don't

worry, I'm already very generous with the delete key and yes, I know

where the door is, I'm just offering a little advice. It's free. ;-)

Hi ,

Yes we have been down this road many times before. I even have a post

dedicated to this very topic.

You might not know it of late but we do have a way of handling

off-topic posts concerning threads that veer into religion and

politics, and that is the tag POLITICS goes in the subject line first,

before the subject of the post. That way people who don't want to read

such stuff can easily delete it.

Poor top posting, unnecessary dead text, poor bottom posting (top

posting in reverse), inability to tell who is saying what, personal

attacks, not changing subject lines appropriately, or changing them

when its not necessary, using digest numbers in the subject line,

etc., ad infinitum ad nauseum have all been addressed before.

Hopefully your reminder and Todd's will help us get back to clean posts.
