Yeah, I agree. I was very reluctant to do it also, but I was tired of

the guesswork and my symptoms were getting worse even though I was

doing " all the right things " . I found a good price online from a doc

in NY.

Interesting, however I am puzzled because isnt this one of the first

bacteria to colonize the gut of infants from mothers milk? Here is

one of the studies I was considering: " Bifidobacterium was

significantly decreased and that of Enterobacteriaceae was

significantly increased compared with that in healthy controls "

I know there are other studies on rats that show improved immunity to

colon cancer from bifidobacterium. I'd be interested to see that

study if you can find the citation... actually I just found it:

Appl Environ Microbiol. 1995 Sep;61(9):3202-7.

THis post is a bit old but I was trying to catch up a bit.

In the book " The Maker's Diet " (the author had serious Crone's

disease that he fully recovered from after trying everything) he talks

a lot about probiotics, and says the different bacteria actually repel

foreign bacteria with different chemicals. If you get a colony of bad

bacteria, they set up shop and stay. (I've never been the same since

my " honeymoon from hell " in Mexico). So fasting, a good replacement

culture, sleep, emotions, etc all play into correcting this. He tried

everything, and ultimately started looking into the biblical dietary

recommendations, including no pork,

certain fish, shell fish, etc. At the same time he changed his

attitudes to be positive etc. He then started healing. He is a

messianic Jew. Anyway the book is an excellent and up to date summary

of herbs, oils, grass fed animals, etc. He talks about WA Price also.
