Winner's Circle Network with Lou Tice - 3/3/05 - " Self Talk 1.0 "

Most people talk to themselves out loud once in a while, but did you know

that there's another, much more powerful kind of self-talk that goes on all

the time?

Have you ever heard the term " self-talk? " It simply means the running

dialogue we all have with ourselves. It goes on virtually all the time,

though it is usually silent. We talk to ourselves in words that take the

form of thoughts. These words trigger pictures, and the pictures, in turn,

create emotions.

These words, pictures, and emotions are recorded in your subconscious, which

then fashions them into beliefs. This is the raw material from which you

manufacture your own self-image, as well as your ideas about what the world

is like.

Now, your subconscious believes what you tell yourself, and it makes sure

you act in a way that is true to your beliefs. So you see, the words you use

in your self-talk have tremendous power to shape your behavior. And, if you

learn how to control your self-talk, you can use your subconscious to help

you become happier and more successful.

Try keeping track of your thoughts - your self-talk - for 24 hours. Jot down

what you say to yourself in a little notebook, and while you won't be able

to record everything, at the end of that time, you'll have a snapshot of

what your self-talk is like.

Then, tomorrow, I'll give you some tips on how to change your self-talk, and

your behavior, for the better.
