Guest guest
Forgive me if this is a bit off topic, but I do believe procuring food IS on topic and the gist of this message points in that direction. Any bowhunters onlist? Preteen ds has a youth 20lb. pull recurve bow for target practice, but is rapidly becoming interested in hunting. I am getting pretty frisky on the whole idea as well. We have some big wild turkeys round here and other game. Basically, I am curious to learn the pros and cons of compound vs. recurve bows. I like the idea of a skill dependent choice but am basically clueless. I understand the physics difference, but is there really that big a difference in practice? Is there a consideration with game type? Please advise. Thanks. Deanna

Deanna, I asked a friend whose been into archery in the past this question for you, and if you ignore the bad spelling and punctuation, the terse and maybe not very helpful reply is thusly: >compound bows alowe you to use more in the lines of sites and stabliziers, >and in some cases lighter faster arrows, makes for a more effective >hunting bow. recurves you dont usually have as easy a time with the >additional items, but you can get them for them too. MFJ If I have to be a grownup, can I at least be telekinetic too?

Natives use these, I think. They require more skill on the part of the hunter to stabilize and pull (although with pulleys, the initial pull would be greater, then an easier time once started). I wonder what problems compound bows have. Recurves may allow for a greater pull without sheer stressing the bow like straight bows would " seem " to, but again, I don't know. I am going by basic physics of the equipment alone. Anyway, maybe I'll have to join an archery group to learn more. Deanna

Well, I don't know anything about it meself (we doan know no steenkin' physics), which is why I keep other people around, to tell me these things. That one guy was my one shot at the subject. Of course, much to Lynn S's chagrin (of the twisted S's), I'm now humming Staaaaaaarrrrrrr TREKkin' ..... (you canna change the laws of physics, laws of physics, laws of physics!) MFJ If I have to be a grownup, can I at least be telekinetic too?
