What I learned in 2005

Where to begin, it was an enlightening year for me.

I've learned that patience and kind words will get you further than

" because I said so " . I mean, I knew this, but I didn't because I grew

up with the authoritative way, so even though I thought I was being

fair, I don't think I was. Hopefully realizing this will be the best

step into change. My brother and sister-in-law are incredible teachers

for me as I see them raising their 1-year-old and 2.5-year-old with

breathtaking patience and humour.

One of my biggests AHAs came late this year when a parent accused me of

not " connecting " with his teenagers. As a high school teacher, I try to

help all my kids, and I took this very personally until I realized that

no, I don't connect with the popular kids now any more than I did when I

was in high school. But I didn't become a teacher for them, I want to

connect with the teenagers who don't quite " fit in " yet are bright, fun,

thoughtful, intuitive characters. I DO connect with them, very well in

fact. I DON'T want to " fit in " still, either.

Lastly, I create most of my own stress. Not all -- we all know how mean

teenagers can be -- but I can choose how I react to them. This will

involve confrontation, which I usually avoid or get so stressed out

about that the kids avoid me, but it needs to be in a more relaxed,

positive way for all of us.

Oh, and really lastly, I discovered how much of my physical body is out

of wack and am taking the time (and money) to do soemthing about it.

The depression, fuzzy thinking, bloated feeling, lack of memory -- well,

I have high blood sugar, low thyroid, dysfunctioning liver, burned out

adrenals and cortisol, ...... They're all connected, and they're all

connected to chronic high stress. I'm seeing a nutritionist, getting

tests done, taking supplements, eating naturally, and oh, I feel so much

happier.

All this, really, in the last few months of the year. May 2006 be even

better!

To be nobody-but-yourself -- in a world which is doing its best night and day,

to make you everybody else -- means to fight the hardest battle which any human

being can fight; and never stop fighting.

Thank you, Emmie, for sharing your 2005 insights. We are indeed, co-creators of

our reality. BTW, have you seen " What the Bleep " ? The heroine's name is also

. In that movie, she also reaches a point when she realizes her role in

creating her life experiences. It's a beautiful movie. I trust you can get the

DVD.

Have a wonderful new year!

In light and love,
