Guest guest
Sitting on a few of the same newsgroups as Heidi and observing how prolific she is in terms of her subject matter expertise, I wondered if our paths would ever cross in person and if I would ever be in a position to put a face to all that knowledge. As serendipity would have it, a conference came up in Seattle which is fairly close to where Heidi lives. I knew this would be the perfect opportunity to meet the Glutenator and pick up some preserves to get me through the conference of 12-14 hour days. (as an aside, the conference focused on " How to Create a Healthy Home " which was pretty amazing in terms of how our home can impact our health...but I digress) So, we emailed, we talked, and then we met. Being directionally challenged in the country, I wondered if I could find my way to " 40 miles in the middle of nowhere " , however in Heidi's inimitable style, her directions were precise right down the kilometer. They live on a stunning piece of property set in a forest with Heidi's numerous projects and signature all over it. Since I joined these lists a few months ago, I had read numerous posts on MN, NN about her kimchee, beer, pop, bread, anchovies, pickles, gluten and casein intolerance just to name of few the specialties that have made her famous. Yup, I got try them all! I had a fabulous breakfast with the family...eggs from their own chickens and her famous hash browns cooked in coconut oil with her special gluten free bread...I was in food heaven! What did we talk about? Well, food of course and the variations thereof...IgA, IgE, IgG, gluten, casein, hops, kefir, her cookbook, her kids, her hubby etc. They have a most charming daughter Frances who is a Heidi in the making, and a son who was at school...and girls, Heidi's husband is very charming and a real cutie! With Heidi's 'food package' of beer, pop and kimchee, I sailed through an intensive 3 day conference with lots of energy. Thank you Heidi for a most entertaining and enlightening morning at your wonderful home in the forest. I look forward to visiting you again. vsp
