Right now I wear a size 6 or 8, and whenever somebody sees me in a bathing suit or a close-fitting shirt, I'm told I'm too thin. I don't think I am too thin right now, I eat well and I am healthy. I weigh 55kg, I think that is 120 pounds. I think I remember my Nada being this weight when she gave birth to my little brother (!!!!!!). I might not be remembering that number correctly, but she certainly did look like a skeleton at the time. When I was in the army and living at Nada's (my job in the army was in an office, 8:00 to 5:00), I lost a lot of weight. Nada wouldn't let me eat at home, and I was never at home at a time when Nada wasn't there. When I was in high school, I'd get home from school when Nada was still at work, so I'd eat then. But when I was in the army, I had no time at home when she was not there. You do not get a salary when you are in the army here, so buying my own food was not an option when I was a soldier (when I was in high school, I taught private lessons and could by my own food). The army food was disgusting so I just lost a lot of weight. I got down to 47kgs, that's about 100 pounds. My height is 167cm, I'm not sure what that is in inches, but I'm tall enough that 47kg was VERY thin. I was also usually dehydrated, I'd faint easily... I'm skinny now, but I'm now a healthy skinny. When I lived at Nada's, I was way underweight, and that had to do directly with Nada and with her not wanting me to eat any of " her " food. Hope (who just finished a big breakfast of homemade wholewheat pancakes)
Guest guest
I have weight issues that were there 20 years ago. I grew up with weight issues bec. we lived in a country with naturally small boned women so at 120 I felt like an elephant. Oh if only I could have enjoyed my body then. Then I lost weight to a healthy level....stayed at 125-130 for years. But still thought I was fat. Got married had babies (6 in all)....put on some with each baby. After my sister died and I had a 2 year old....I was 220 and 5 foot 2. Nada was in my life...living here half the year. She left. I lost 50 pounds without trying. Of course I developed real diabetic issues on my own through this....all new way of looking at things.....I don't have full blown diabetes 2, but WAS very close. I've been controlling carbohydrate eating now for months. Am down to 170..... It is the hardest thing to lose weight.....I am doing it to be healthy. I am 45 and would like to be around when my baby turns 45. I could use a good mother right now!!!! Anyway.....putting health first is a whole new world for me ....but I'm doing it!! Have found low carb pasta...little things like that get me through. It's a whole new way of looking at food. Well...it's hard. That's all I can say. But I do believe it is possible. What is hard is hitting a plateau and eating like an angel for a month and gaining weight (!!) but my clothes are getting loose and my husband is really so supportive. So are the kids. One day at a time, sometimes, one meal, one snack at a time. Kathleen

Guest guest
Hi, I have put on 10kg since I was diagnosed, I use to be very petite and small framed. Now I look like a Zumo Wrestler, I eat very healthy and small amounts, but not matter what I do the weight keeps on pilling on. I guess soon we may have to start an overweight CFS/FM support group.. lol. Cheers > Although there have been side benefits > such as a better mood and appetite suppression. Weird, though, even > though the appetite is suppressed, I gained weight. Ugh. > > I am interested in finding out how many people have gained weight since being afflicted with this disease. I cannot believe how much weight I have gained and I DO NOT overeat!
Guest guest
Hey K2, I know I've gained about 35 lbs since the beginning of this disease. I have very little appetite, like you said, but I believe it is becuz we are not burning anything off. I was quite active, as most people were, much more physical, rode bikes, walked a LOT, moved quicker just getting things done, whether at the office or home , shoot even grocery shopping, I was moving around quickly. Since that has stopped, I believe that is why we gain weight. I guess for some it could be a side effect from a med too. I'm just trying to embrace my new, fuller figure (along with EVERYTHING else that has changed! ) Good luck to you all, STL Jane Gore wrote: Hi, I have put on 10kg since I was diagnosed, I use to be very petite and small framed. Guest guest
You are not alone... I have gained a LOT of weight since I contacted Fibro/CFS fifteen years ago. I have gone from 140 lbs being my average weight (not thin enough, but tolerable), to twice that now. I have fought and lost/gained it back over the years. Nothing has helped because I was extremely active in the past, and now in so much pain I can do little-to-zero exercise consistently. Out of pure desperation, I am scheduled for lap band surgery in three weeks. I hope and pray that I can starve off this horrible weight gain using the lap band as a tool to make it happen. I ask for your prayers that I can make it through this. It has been an awfully tough decision for me to make. However, I now have Type II Diabetes, and Sleep Apnea due the the weight gain. The doctors tell me I am at terrible risk the way I am, and getting the surgery should at least help me to get the weight under control. My daughter also has Fibro/CFS and has also experienced serious weight gain for the same reasons I have. I know that not everyone who contracts this disease gains weight, but I believe if your metabolism is slow, it happens. I am not recommending this surgery to others, but I hope it is the right thing for me. Best regards,
Guest guest
Hi , I was always petite too and have put on 35 to 40lbs. since my diagnosis also. It's very frustrating. When I was diagnosed I was only 102 lbs. When you are short though even 10lbs. makes a huge difference. I don't eat much either and what I do eat is predominantly healthy. I think it is because we are just not as active as we were before. Because I am short, I always relate myself to a " fire hydrant. " (ha,ha) My boyfriend and I have a joke that he now has more woman to love. I tell him I am ...shade in the summer and a TON of fun in the winter! (ha,ha) Because, I majored in Opera Performance in College, I tell him that I packed on the pounds on purpose. I say, " well you always say that I have to get the last word in so...it's now not over till this fat lady sings! " (He, He) Let me know when your overweight CFS/FM support group (of Zuma wrestlers) begins, I will be the first to sign up. In fact, I will even bring the milk and cookies and bake brownies for the opening event. Guest guest
Besides being sick with CFS, the weight gain in the other thing that really bothers me. I am petite and small framed as well. It IS because of low activity level that the weight comes and does not go away. I would love a suuport group for this. Guest guest
I was 18 years old when I first got FM/CFS/ME. I weighed 98lbs. Twenty nine years later I weigh 235 lbs. Weight gain is DEFINITELY an issue. I'm sure most of it is due to inactivity....(who can be active when you can't move?)....but also the meds doctors prescribe (antidepressants) have weight gain as a side effect. Vicious circle...but at least you're not alone! Best Wishes, Misty Patient & Founder FM/CFS/ME Resources > Besides being sick with CFS, the weight gain in the other thing that really bothers me.
