I think there's a miscommunication here. My understanding is that he found

vegan *societies* but not vegan *tribes*. Although he's not really clear on

this. Here's a quote from NAPD:

" I have as yet found no group that was building and maintaining good bodies

exclusively on plant foods. A number of groups are endeavoring to do so with

marked evidence of failure. The variety of animal foods available has varied

widely in some groups, and been limited among others. " p.282

I was under the impression he's talking about religious groups that are

practicing veganism based on religious ideology (such as some of the Eastern

religions), but I could be wrong.
