I also don't use UPS > unless I absolutely have to! > > Jan i drive for a milk group...two actually and i might be doing it for a third as well. in reading posts here, and in listening to the horror stories of the farmers, i have come to the conclusion that, despite the higher cost, overnighting the products is a NECESSITY and should be standard procedure. farmers should just say, 'i only ship overnight'. thinking 'i hope it gets there in two days' is just too risky. they're trying to save money for the customer who might not order otherwise, in other words, rather than pay the cost of overnighting, the customer might not order at all. it's just not worth risking the dairy, both to 'spoil' or whatever (sour, really), and to risk the usually large amount of money the raw dairy products cost. it costs more to overnight it...but anything longer, in my opinion, is a disservice to the customer, the farmer and the product itself. i don't think it's worth taking the chance that it will get there in 2 days...which is too long IMO anyway. ice packs and styrofoam coolers are really only good for 24 hours. ditto if the product is shipped frozen. like i said...i've heard too many horror stories. and stuff i ordered by mail, only once, didn't 'last' (went sour) nearly as long as the farmer said it would. the farm i mostly drive for, the farmers have told me their stories in quite an upset state. cheese arriving much later than promised 'all blown up' (inflated). etc. just my opinion and of course there will be people here i'm sure who will say they've never had a problem either shipping or receiving. anyway. laura Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
