I'd be happy to hear discussion and speculation on penises, but I know

very little about that topic. Except that most primates have tiny

wee-wees. :D Actually, I do know something related: in primates,

generally testicle size is directly proportion to competitiveness for

mates in that particular species. I think gorillas or orangutans have

really small testicles versus certain kinds of promiscuous monkeys that

have relatively much larger testicles. I think almost all primates have

small penises compare to humans, though.

Relative to our body size, human males have among the biggest penises in

the entire animal kingdom, actually.

Clearly, you have never seen a horny stallion. <g>

I said relative to their (our) body size, not in absolute terms. I don't

have time to hunt up some references, but I read this in some scholarly

nature publication or other a few years ago. I forget which animals have a

higher penis:body size ratio, but humans were towards the top.

425m-year-old penis found

By Highfield, Science Editor

(Filed: 05/12/2003)

A 425-million-year-old fossilised penis, the oldest one yet recorded,

has been discovered by scientists.

It belongs to an ostrocod, a tiny animal like a water-flea which is

still common today, even in suburban ponds.

The fossil was found preserved in volcanic ash at an undisclosed site in

Herefordshire, which was once part of an ancient ocean.

It shows a remarkable amount of soft tissue detail. Fossilised soft

parts such as those reported in the journal Science by Prof

Siveter of the University of Leicester and colleagues in Oxford and Yale

are extremely rare.

The previous oldest specimen was 240 million years old.

" It is very exciting, " Prof Siveter said. " Here we have a beautiful

animal preserved in all its glory, and with all its appendages. "

An ostracod is only 5mm long and its penis can be as much as a third of

the size of its entire body.

It has been named Colymbosathon ecplecticos, which means " astounding

swimmer with a large penis " .

Although there are older fossils with possible evidence of male

features, it is unequivocal in the case of the Herefordshire fossil.

" It is definitely a male, " he said. " That stout projection is a

well-preserved penis. "

See, I said _among_. (Actually, it's possible that what I read only

discussed mammals, though... I might've been mistaken to encompass the

whole animal kingdom. I remember whales, humans, some kind of ape or

monkey, and maybe dogs and dolphins being discussed, but no fleas or lizards.)

Two responses:

1. My response was primarily just horsing around.

2. I know you said in proportion to body size, but I've seen an erect horse

in which the *length* of the penis was astounding, even in proportion to his

body. I've never seen a human male with a comparable proportional length of

his shaft. Of course this is anecdotal, but I wonder about the mystique of

the stallion and if shaft size has anything to do with it.

I guess it also depends on whether you measure size by length (or height)

or mass. I don't remember which baseline the article I read used.

I can't even believe I googled this, but the figure I found for the length

of a horse's penis is 2'6 " . The same list said that the average human

penis is 6 " . If the average mass of a stallion is 1200#, that's 40# per

inch for the horse, and if the average mass for a man is 170#, that's

28.33# per inch for the man, meaning the man wins. Using a lower average

mass for horses of 1000#, which I expect is for females though I could well

be wrong, man still wins, as the horse comes in at 33.33# per inch. OTOH,

using 5 " as the average length for man, then man is narrowly beaten by the

lighter horse but still better endowed than the heavier horse, coming in at

34# per inch.

If you measure by height or length, though, the horse obviously comes out

on top, because horses are in the neighborhood of man height and are

roughly as long as they are tall.

I think that accounts for my ration of trivia for the day. <g>

And thank heavens we don't have bones in our penises like most animals.

That would be so unwieldy. I would have a bone to pick with our

Intelligent Designer if He'd picked the wrong type of boner for us.
