Guest guest
Just wanted to say I have been reading the posts yet just haven't responded in the last couple of days. For those of you who knew our dog, Rocky, was struggling with a bone deterioration and arthritis...now has passed away. He has been in my life for 10+ yrs and my husbands for 12+ yrs. We had made the decision to have him put to sleep at 5:30 p.m., but Rocky had other plans. He waited for Todd to get off work, early, and died in Todd's arms around 1:15 p.m. today. It has been a sad day. Definitely a blessing, yet at the same time, pulling at the heart strings. sigh Sandie
Guest guest
I'm so sorry about your dog but his end sounded peaceful and in his own time. I would not have comprehended the sadness of losing a dog until I became a dog person 5 years ago July 14. It's a shame that such wonderful pets can't live longer lives. May I strive to become the person my dog thinks I am. I think you already have. Hugs Jan Sacramento CA
Guest guest
Sandie, My heart is with you. There are five dogs in my household, ranging in age from 3-8 (21-56) years young. Each of their personalities is as unique as my son's and they are all family members. Zoe, Aphrodite, Flash, Zane, and Ozzie got together with me in silent prayer this morning, asking Rocky to give a big wag and lick for Merle. No one's going to tell me that animals don't have a soul. We know different in this home. Lot's of hugs to you and your family today as you remember the joy that Rocky brought into your lives. Have you read the Harriot series of books, " All Creatures Great & Small? " His stories have always touched my heart, especially when I am dealing with situations with my own animals. Much love to you and yours today, Betty
Guest guest
Jan, I loved your statement " May I strive to be the person my dog thinks I am. " Wouldn't it be great if we all had such trust and love as our pets. I believe they can make us better people. Maybe that why I have so many! Still trying to get it right. Guest guest
My heart goes out to you. I have a 13 and 14 year old dogs. I am facing the same decision in the next year. Many people say our dogs are our kids. They don't understand. The dogs have been our constant companions for years. We love them for that. I respect my dogs as dogs. They don't need to be people substitutes to be loved. Hope the happy memories bring you comfort. Guest guest
Betty, I have 2 dogs (112 & 49) and 3 cats (112, 77 and 63) and have always thought that the human race would be much better off if we observed and followed the examples of our four-legged friends. Dogs are harder to care for but I can't tell you how many times I have thanked God for bringing them into my life. Courage Re: Not LBD >Sandie, > >My heart is with you. Guest guest
Aww Sandie, i'm so sorry rocky passed away yet at the same time i'm glad you didn't have to go through the ordeal of having him put to sleep also that he's not suffering anymore. We had a cat for years and when he passed my mum was so distraught she couldn't go into work that day, mind you my dad was even more upset as my mum wrapped him in my dad's best suit jacket to bury him!!! I've just posted your CD (sorry for the delay) so it should reach you in a couple of days. Granda much the same, sedated some days as he gets so worked up and aggressive, sleeps all the time on other days and is very quiet when awake, barely eats and isn't drinking much. Tonight was much the same, he couldn't keep his eyes open, i asked my aunt what was keeping him going and she seems to think and i tend to agree that it's because his heart is strong, the only blessing is that if he sleeps all the time then he's not suffering. I'll try(if your going to be in) and give you a call saturday. .xx Re: Not LBD Just wanted to say I have been reading the posts yet just haven't responded in the last couple of days. Guest guest
Betty You always have the most heartfelt words to say. Thank you for understanding the pain and loss we feel in losing Rocky. It just seems so quiet now. Thinking of you and all that you are dealing with as well. Waiting (im) patiently to hug your butt off. Guest guest
Sandie, So sorry to hear about Rocky. I am glad for Rocky's sake he got to go while in loving arms. They deserve that from us. I hope him and Beans (my dog that died last year) get to be good friends in heaven. Shirley > Just wanted to say I have been reading the posts yet just haven't > responded in the last couple of days. Guest guest
Courage Thank you for your support regarding our dog. Even tonight, after UPS, I got out of the truck (still in need of a hood ornament ), went to the gate and looked for Rocky. Sandie
Guest guest
Thank you so much for your support in losing our dog. It is a blessing, yet, again in a loss it takes time to convince the heart. I am SO anxious to get the CD. No apologies . I just heard it again on a show we were watching, and pointed out to my family that what was being played was " Amazing Grace " on bagpipes. Truly an awe inspiring sound. I wish I were there with you as you visit your grandad. Consider my heart with you as I can feel the emotions you are experiencing. My plans for Saturday, so far is I am going to our local Farmers Market. Several venders set up stands in downtown Des Moines and sell everything from fresh produce and baked items to flowers and home made soaps. Then, the friend I will be going with asked if I wanted to see the movie " Whale Rider " . This was filmed in New Zealand (hiya ) and I am very excited that I am going to see it. Not sure what time we will be home. As soon as I find out I will let you know. Would LOVE to hear your voice and I truly enjoyed our last conversation. I am keeping you and Grandpa Bert in my prayers, and always in my heart. Hugs- Sandie

Guest guest
Courage, I agree with you 110%! Sharing our home with 2 dogs and 4 cats of our own is at times, the only thing that keeps me sane. And would you believe, we keep looking at the " Animal Adoption " sites near us! LOL! Hey, I never said we were all the way sane! My condolences to Sandie. And plenty of hugs. Guest guest
I am sorry to hear about your kitty, Siobhan. I have to share this with you, if you don't mind. I had a beautiful grey, tan, and white calico ( from here on in, referred to as " Punkin " ) who was hit by a truck and killed about 3 1/2 years ago. Punkin was no ordinary cat. She saved my life several times during my years with depression. You see I was the " suicidal " depressed type. She would lay beside me for days when I could function enough to get out of bed. She would nuzzle and purr at exactly the right times to take my attention away from the bad things. When she died, I thought I would lose it, but God pranced another kitty in my path to help calm the raw feelings. He always seems to do that. And sometimes it's 2 or 3 to replace one. What's wrong with that picture?!? LOL! Enough ramblig. Just wanted to share that. My heart goes out to you and Sandie. Beth L. > Sandie > > So sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved dog. Guest guest
Beth L. Thank you for the support and many hugs. I do believe that true (not cyber) hugs would just bring on more tears...tears of healing. It just seems so quiet around here now. We also have 3 cats. Our county law prohibits us from having more than 3 of one species. My youngest son recently said he doesn't want another dog...he doesn't want to go through what we just did, ever again. It is tough seeing our kids hurt. I appreciate your understanding. Hugs- Sandie
Guest guest
Beth Thanks for your lovely story about Punkin. He/She sounded like a truly great cat. Hope your new cats are as great a comfort to you. I don't think we'll replace Felix. He was our second fatality in as many weeks. Fluffy met the same unfortunate end a couple of weeks ago. I'm beginning to think there is something weird going on here, as well as the cats, there has been four dead birds in our garden in the last 10 days!! Am I going to be responsible for killing off all our local wildlife single-handed!!! Siobhan Ireland

Guest guest
Siobhan You mentioned you have had 4 dead birds...we had a baby duck in our street Monday night. The strangest site! We have no water sources around our home, yet a baby duck (Mallard no less) was in our street. It was so very tiny. Ended up talking to the vet, because of Rocky, and asked if he had any ideas what to do with the duck. He gave us a name and number of a lady who is a wildlife refuge, takes in all sorts of wildlife, takes care of them, then releases them back to the wild. She came and picked up " Daffy " on Tuesday...about 6 hrs after Rocky had passed away. So, we experienced a new life, and a death, all in the animal world, all in the same day. Mixed emotions to say the least. Anyhow, I am glad you have been posting so much lately...been wonderful reading what has been happening in your life. Sending a ton of hugs across the pond.
