Kris Sticking to just the cost of the food itself, I'm not sure how raw meat compares to can food, but I would guess it's in the ballpark. Hugo's basic food is beef heart and that costs just under $1/pound where I live. I buy about 9 lbs at a time, ask for it to be cut up in stew-meat size, and bring it home to put in quart-size Mason jars to freeze. He also gets trimmings from the pastured-raw meat I eat, and a daily portion of turkey neck and a teensy bit of steamed zucchini (or fresh grass).
