I thoroughly retract my recommendation to consume both onions and

garlic while fighting candida. I retract it so much that I've stopped

consuming whole raw garlic in favor of consuming raw garlic juice to

avoid the inulin.

Last night I had dinner with 3 onions and a half a head of garlic

sauteed, and it was the worst-digested meal since I've eaten nuts, the

first time I've had major rumbling since nuts, and the *first* time

I've had stinky farts *at all* since before my two-week fast (not even

nuts did this), and the *first* time I've had a BM that smelled bad or

even smelled much at all since before my two-week fast (no, not even

nuts did this).

And in fact, these farts were some of the worst I've smelled.

Completely acrid. And my stool went from previously looking great to

pathetic, and really stinky.

The effects lasted well into today, with my bowel feeling subtly like

it was threatened with diarrhea, something that never technically

materialized, and only started wearing off mid-day.

It's now my opinion that one should limit carbs in general but should

get almost all carbs from raw honey, which is both antifungal but also

by far the easiest thing to digest, much easier than most vegetables I

think.

Whether you like it or not, one of the main purposes of this list is to

help sick people get well, and since digestion is arguably the most

important component of health, discussions about digestion are arguably

among the most important discussions on the list. Furthermore, attaining

full health often _requires_ a certain amount of navel-gazing -- a fine

attunement to the responses of one's own body to various foods,

supplements, medications, and environmental conditions. Scoff at all

you want, but I won't have other people discouraged from being as

forthright as he is in seeking a full recovery.

Is it possible that there's a difference in eating raw onions and

sauteed? I mean, I know there is, but sauteed onions become

caramelized and, well, sugar-y and that may inactivate the

digestion-pomoting compounds you were seeking. They lose their

pungency. Did the materials you read suggesting onions indicate

cooking them?

Speaking medicinally, there is a world of difference between cooked

garlic and raw garlic. I would stick with raw garlic and onions and or

their juice. Admittedly I have little experience with onion juice

since it has been years since I did something like that (it was an

onion juice and honey concoction), but garlic I am familiar with, and

raw consistently works best

I would think, and I think you have discovered, that a large amount of

cooked garlic and onions might cause problems for someone with

digestive issues, so best to concentrate it by juicing it.

I wholeheartedly agree with you here. Even with the highest quality

food in the universe, if you can't or don't assimilate the nutrients,

it won't do you much good.

That's gross-- I said sauteed not carmelized! You have to cook onions

for a really long time to carmelize them. They're pretty good if you

put the right flavors in, but not a plateful of them, way too sweet.

Anyway sugary is not a problem for me. For example I tolerate honey

and certain fruit fine. I doubt the inulin gets broken down during

cooking.

The difference between raw and cooked, I think, is 1) raw onions

contain medicinal properties and 2) you can't eat much of them.

I was thinking of the inulin, which is a fiber, and shouldn't be

affected much by cooking. And I believe that's exactly what the

*problem* is with onions.

Right... I'm not even sure why raw vs. cooked is even coming up, as I

would go so far as to consider them not even the same foods. The

properties are totally different. I'm not in any way conflating the

properties of raw garlic/onions with cooked garlic/onions. I was

seeking totally different properties.

The supposedly prebiotic function of inulin is dependent on a larger

quantity than found in what someone can tolerate raw, and in that

sense either requires cooking or taking an isolate. That is what I

was thinking of, not the antimicrobial functions that are destroyed by

cooking (along with other medicinal properties), and that's what I'm

definitely not going after anymore.

I thought it was a reaction to the previous attack of the " off-topic

police " -- a rebel action, if you will, making sure no one gets away

with posting ON-topic posts. lol!

Thank you. But, we must hearken back to the words of the immortal JC, who

reminds us that 'Mr. Schwartz' is without humor.

That Gene sure is difficult to deal with. I can understand why you say such

nasty things about him.

Well whatever Gene was being, I was only addressing 's comments

about the centrality of digestion. I should have trimmed the post to

reflect that. I wasn't trying to join in his " spanking " of Gene,

LOL! No no no. Not my place.

I'm not sure why you think I'm embarrassed, but if you can point out any

instances in which someone made some jokes which might reasonably be

perceived as sarcastic cracks without any kind of response from me, I'll

happily concede that I'm guilty of unintentional unequal treatment.

I don't mean to be overly sensitive, but coming from one who's life has

almost been ruined more than once by the curse of OCD (since i was a

child!), I hope you are not making fun of this affliction. I don't talk

about this here because I'm so embarrassed by it, but I really felt my

personal take on 5 HTP might help Kerry Ann's child. Otherwise, I would not

have revealed that I suffer from it.

Suze,

Oh dear, no!

I have suffered at times from symptoms of low serotonin myself and

have a bottle of Thorne 5-htp on the nightstand to prove it. I was

poking fun at myself by alluding to your comment. Please pardon.

Oh, did the two of you also have a pile of all the unfriendly-looking
