I like this topic of discussion and think there is much more than

nutrition to human health. As far as technology goes: Even if there was

no modern technology, we are still bombarded with electromagnetic

radiation (emr) from all over the universe and from all over the emr

spectrum - x-rays all the way down to long waves, with visible light and

fm radio in between. The question is, which form of emr is harmful to

humans, and which is okay and even necessary for our functioning as

biological entities. For instance, visible light is a pretty high

energy, high frequency form of emr, yet we absolutely need light on our

skin and in our eyes (if they see) to synthesize vitamin D (among other

things ) and sense the world visually.

Probably the magnetic field is more problematic to human health than the

electricity. For example, when you run a hair dryer you don't notice

any electricity sparking through your hand, but if you put it next to

your TV set, it will distort the picture, yet this doesn't cause any

electrical interference either. This happens because the electrons

shooting out from the cathode ray tube are influenced by the magnetic

disturbances produced by the motor in the hair dryer.

People buy these magnetic bracelets and stuff in the hopes of finding a

healing amulet. Yet an MRI will align all your hydrogen atoms in one

direction, so that sensors can detect the radiation from those atoms.

Powerful stuff, not something to tinker with.

Electricity can kill you, of course. Lightning strikes are a good

example. Living by high tension wires that sizzle away is probably not

a good thing. Electrical transformers otoh can be pretty safe if they

are constructed well to contain the electrical and magnetic fields -

which power companies want, they want efficient components that contain

the energy rather than dispersing it. But the only way to tell is to

test each one.

Light at 10^15 hz is more dangerous to humans probably than 60 hz. In

the UK it is 50 hz for electricity. But electricity isn't as bad as the

equal magnetism present. In nature you have the north magnetic pole

pulling on your body, but in today's society a host of appliances

produce radiation than bings off walls at fun geometric angles. The

iron in your body is affected by magnetism, but yet an MRI doesn't rip

the iron out like a big magnet pulling little iron filings towards it,

so how bad is all of this?

Cell phones run on microwave frequency. Period. They are just like a

microwave oven, only a microwave oven's frequency is set to the resonant

frequency of water molecules. That's why dry stuff doesn't work well in

a microwave oven. So anyone here who is leery of microwaves yet places

a cell phone again their moist head, even if it isn't in tuned to water

resonance (cuz if it was, you'd be fryin' dead in less than a minute),

y'aught to think twice. The health problems cropping up in less than 10

years use of brain tumors and cancer of the ear tissues should really

make one think about this. Heck, a pager is a good second choice if you

really think you *need a cell phone* as it just receives. Cell phones

transmit powerfully across large distances, often with the transmitting

antenna right next to your brain! Hello? That's the problem. Plus,

cell phone towers are going to give you constant exposure to this

microwave radiation. And these will be put up in a yard near you if the

trend continues. This, imo, is the pressing health issue related to

technology besides x-rays that folks should really think about.
