Some detoxes might be too strong, but I would try a fresh juice fast

accompanied by a natural herbal laxitive tea so you have elimination once a

day. Im between I would go on an all raw foods diet including raw animal

products. Has helped my asthma- went from 3 inhalers 24 hrs a day to being

able to run at 6.0 on treadmill for 50-60 minutes - no meds. Took awhile

for this to happen , but I am steadily detoxing and rebuilding. I go in

cycles. Oh before juice fasting I would flush out the liver until there are

no more stones- see toolsforhealing.com for flush instructions- you can buy

ingredients at supermarket. Piece of advice if u do flush - take 4 capsules

500 mg of L-Ornithine with oliveoil/grapefruit mix- or youll puke your guts

out. Happy detoxing neighbor. Im from lowell- I know Wanita is from Ma and

so are u. Any one else?

Well, as long as you have the Listerine, I guess it's all okay.

Another thing I'm wondering is how appropriate a juice fast is for a

possible systemic infection centered in the gut or involving the gut.

A juice fast sounds great for someone who's only goal is to detox

cellular toxins, by minimizing digestion to allow for detoxing.

But I'm considering the possibility that I might also have a systemic

infection going out of whack from all the stresses placed on me

recently, and I want to combat that *too*. So I was thinking that

something like coconut oil, which, on the one hand, like the

monosacharides of juice, is very easy on the digestive system, but

unlike simple sugars, has anti-microbial properties instead of

pro-microbial properties.

It seems overloading the gut with simple sugars could potentially

aggravate any problems with fermentation in the gut.

Or am I wrong? Are juice fasts supposed to be beneficial for fighting

off gut overgrowths, or are they just for general detoxing?

Thanks,

Chris

There are some things fasting is contraindicated for but none of what

you describe above. It will do as a nice detox. If you do a liquid fast

I would *not* add protein powder of any sort. On a liquid fast the body

spares protein..

You can do a gentle liver flush if you like to help with the detox and a

good potassium broth during the fast is helpful as well. If you want

recipes let me know.

For someone hesitant about juice fasting, coconut water and coconut

milk are good additions. As are green superfoods and lactofermented

juices. You will get the coconut oil from the milk.

I would use Dr. Schulze's #1 and #2 to make sure you are having daily

bowel movements while fasting so you don't reabsorb the stuff you are

detoxing. And don't forget to exercise.

Also, you will lose weight in the short run, count on it. But once you

start eating normally again you will quickly gain it back, especially

since your digestion should be more efficient.

You can experiment a little. Try it for three days. If it freaks you out

(or the detox is to strong) then move to a modified fast like you

describe above. If not stick with a little longer and since its Great

Lent do a lot of praying. You might be surprised at how well you can

persevere.

By the way, liquid fasting can be spendy (especially if you have a low

quality juicer). You might want to wait until you get your first

paycheck at your new job.

Have you talked about this before either here or elsewhere? I am interested

in the protocols that you used, including your diet, and what you perceived

the results to be. A link to another source where you have this written up

will fine if that's available.

I started doing some detoxing and juice fasts last year and have set up a

protocol for the rest of this year. I am really flying by the seat of my

pants based on what I've read and what I have seen reported by others so I'm

very interested in getting information from someone who has been doing this

and is seeing results.

Thanks,

Ron

Wanita,

Is that what you eat during the daytime fast, or is that what you break

the fast with? I do well with warrior style eating and am a protein

type (methinks). BTW, do you eat any dairy? If so, do you have any

issues with it?

That's what I eat during in a few snacks during the day. Dairy is down to

sour cream on tacos and potatoes rarely. Cream cheese in cheesecake or with

celery even less. Only two that don't make mucus in 20 minutes. Enzymes in

cheese give digestive issues sour cream or cream cheese don't.

What's the Dr. Shulze stuff?

What kind of exercise? I was assuming I should NOT lift weights,

since my body would have to put energy into repairing muscle rather

than detoxing... right?

The two problems I have with this approach is that without carrots or

other sources of sugar, the juice simply can't provide enough energy

to make it through the day for me, and that this is outrageously

expensive. I tried juice fasting for one day and put about $15 of

food including berries and carrots into a juicer and wound up with

about 30 oz of juice which lasted me till lunch time at work because I

was able to stretch it out.

I also have decided to not touch any mixed superfood green powders or

drinks with a ten-foot pole. While I've had spirulina mixed into

smoothies many times in the past with no problem, I believe I'm

allergic to cereal grass juices, which are usually mixed in with the

algae in drink mixes or drinks.

I drank a shot of wheat grass juice a couple years ago which made my

mouth very itchy so I didn't finish it. A couple weeks ago, I bought

Odwalla's Superfood drink, which had wheat grass and barley grass

juices in it, as well as spirulina and chlorella. I tried some at

night and felt some minor breathing discomfort. I drank another glass

and went to bed. I woke up in the middle of the night in a sudden fit

of panic pacing around in the darkness trying to recover my breath,

which was proving elusive. I laid in bed scared to fall asleep

because I felt like I'd stop breathing in my sleep or the same thing

would happen again. Tiredness overcame me however and trumped my

concerns. Like an *idiot* I drank more of this juice the next day!

For some reason I wasn't sure whether it was the drink or not. I had

problems breathing all day. I decided when I got home from work it

wasn't worth the risk of drinking more and my breathing problems

subsided and were basically gone the next day.

So... I'll pass on green superfoods.

On the upside, sent me Fife's VCO fast which seems exactly the

type of thing I was looking to carry out and look forward to doing

when I get my QFI in. This seems superior to a juice fast to me.

I'll be sure to report on the results. In essence it is 10-14 tbsp

VCO per day with fresh unsweetened lemonade or limeade for seven days.

Why not just eat some meat instead of using a powder?

Ron,

This sounds eerily familiar to me, heh. Do you eat raw liver?

suggested it to me and it really works. And especially take a good

B-vitamin if you get carbs/simple sugar cravings. It makes a huge

difference for me. It sounds adrenal-linked. And I hate to say it,

but--gulp--gluten sensitivity? OMG.

I'm with , here. Ron, when your body is pumping out adrenaline,

you feel really *good*. It's a great feeling: alert, light, fast,

sharp. Your adrenals get stressed because you are pumping out too

much, and they don't get enough downtime to recharge. The symptoms of

fatigue come periodically and show themselves often as mood

swings/panic and carb binges.

Stage 1 adrenal fatigue is high levels of cortisol. Stage two is when

you've lost the ability to make enough, and the cortisol levels are

very low.

I don't know that this is your problem, but it kinda seems like it

fits, considering your personality and lifestyle. Schwarzbein

explains it very well, but you're not gonna like it--sorry in advance,

hehe. In fact, she says adrenalin junkies like, well, some people on

this list, but I'm not naming names, (me) usually quit because they

can't bear the insulin-building phase.

You might want to go the whole 9 yards and roast your own green

coffee beans like I do. Comes out great and there is a huge selection

of good green beans out there on the 'net. I still don't like decaf

much though.
