Guest guest
i have just seen sicko, and even after a few hours, i remain upset by what i've seen. yes, i know it's just a movie, and has a particular slant.i have lived overseas, and have benefited from care in germany and denmark, and when younger, had medicaid here in the united states, and now have private health insurance.i think about our discussions here on the listserv and my personal experience, both as a doctor and patient, and i would highly recommend doing so after seeing sicko.at IMP camp, gordon made a statement to the effect that he doesn't want to take on the health insurance companies at this time, rather to continue to gather statistically valid data which supports better outcomes and lower cost through IMP style practice, and to work with them to support us.as i have previously said, i believe the health insurance companies must eventually be confronted head on, by an alliance of doctors, patients and employers, forcing our elected representatives "to provide for the general welfare".i believe we will eventually have universal health care, and through a single payer system, as long as we continue to vote and are not cowed by attempts on many levels to scare, demoralize and keep us quiet and hopeless.i'm wondering can we think how our model might fit into a single payer universal care system? bob forester's robin hood model? would there be incentives for providing great care? could we be paid well? for cognitive work?just thinking.LL Fussy?
