Exactly. That's what most people don't seem to understand. It applies to so many

things. Another example is GMOs. Sure, one day GMOs might be extremely

beneficial (although the thought of seriously modified plants and animals

continues to bother me), but why rush into it until we know all the facts? The

potential for harm is so great, thus the " opportunity cost " is very high at this

point.

Yeah, even though formaldehyde doens't accumulate it's still not something you

want in your body. Formic acid is bad stuff, it's the same stuff that's in the

poison of certain ants ( " formica " is Latin for ant). Dictionary describes it as

a " colorless pungent fuming vesicatory liquid acid " .

Your gut produces formaldehyde though, and it is present in a lot of home-brewed

products. It, and other aldehydes, are common fermentation byproducts, so you

probably get some in your blood just from digesting food. This comes up every so

often when folks who are chemically sensitive try to make kimchi!
