Has anybody seen any positive results with SAM-E for mood

enhancement/stabilization? Surprisingly, our psychiatrist recommended that we

use it before going back to a SSRI. I had thought about it before, but was not

sure about the efficacy or dosing. Information about either/both would be

appreciated.

Thanks,

Aliza

Re: Autism Article

Just a note regarding the glutathione article. First, it's now a 2

year old article. Second, many of our medical colleagues at DAN! have

discovered that some children do quite well on glutathione, others

become very hyperactive. Please be aware that there are

individualized differences between children. Magic bullets seldom are.

Glutathione is only one thing that may help some children. Since this

article was published glutathione has become available in many

different forms. Most are prescription. Each child responds

differently to different approaches. Glutathione can now be given

orally, via IV, by transdermal patches, or nebulized and inhaled.

Most of the children who do not do well with glutathione are very

hyperactive. It merely means that they have blockages at a different

place in their metabolism than children who do well. They can't

handle Glutathione.

An additional point, one I learned from my friend Dr. Usman, is that

glutathione production, which aids in detoxification of heavy metals

in all of us, is completely disrupted for at least 3 weeks when we

take even a single dose of acetaminophen. The ramification of that is

that most of us were told by our pediatricians to give our children

acetaminophen to avoid the " fever that comes naturally with a

vaccination. " In reality, no advice could have been more damaging to

our kids. With the acetaminophen their glutathione production shut

down just in time to get popped with a slug of aluminum and mercury in

the vaccines. Additionally, most of the kids our practice sees have

very high viral titers for measles, mumps and rubella, or at least one

or two of those -- the acetaminophen shut down their body's normal

reaction to having live viruses introduced, albeit unnaturally through

the bloodstream by a needle -- a fever. There is only one way to

eliminate viruses -- high temperatures, above normal body temp.

Unfortunately, most of these kids now harbor many chronic forms of

diseases that were given to them through needles. THat is much more

chronic and damaging than just getting the diseases that all of us

most likely lived through as kids!

What have we done to our children?

Aliza,

My NT daughter used that for a while. She took it on an empty

stomach first thing in the morning and it did help her through some

stressful time in high school. We also gave her St. s Wort, some

Omega 3 and some Gaba and Theanine. All were helpful for her to

control mood swings and get through her senior year.

Your doctor recommended this? Wow. My answer is yes. My son was on a

SSRI (Zoloft) for 7 years. I tried many times to remove it to see if he

could cope. We were never able to get lower than 12mg (I chopped up the

25mg tablet) without him having meltdowns. Then the Care Clinic said to

at least try SAM-E. I used it over a 2 week period while gradually

reducing the Zoloft. My son has been free from Zoloft now for 4 months.

He does cry sometimes like every normal child and he does have some

fears but his emotions seem to range on the whole spectrum and have

logical reasons as to why they occur. I have seen no side effects from

SAM-E either and it's easy to find. My son had serious issues with mood

stabilization even at 3 years old when we started. We could not go

anywhere, everything set him off emotionally. This is a child who cried

non stop and was difficult to calm down when he did start crying. You

don't give Zoloft to a 3 year old unless it's serious. I basically told

our doctor to either medicate him or I'm jumping out a window. Zoloft

worked for quite awhile and he began talking soon after Zoloft but only

single words. I would not have believed that something like SAM-E could

have the same benefit as a superscription drug but it does and we also

don't get the silly manic laughing like we did on Zoloft either. Best of

Luck. Trina :

Trina, that's great news. How old is your son now, and what dose do you give

him?

Thanks,

Aliza
