I quite agree, but some recipes require the flavor of olive oil as opposed

to butter or lard or CO, and it's not like small quantities of good olive

oil are harmful, so I always keep some Bariani around. My fat-phobic and

sat-fat-super-phobic girlfriend uses far more of it than I do, though.

Simple enough -- and I expect my answer is very much what Mike would

say. Olive oil is mostly monounsaturated, with a not-insignificant

polyunsaturated fraction. Unlike coconut oil, it has no beneficial

metabolic effect, and might even have a slight negative effect on the

metabolism due to its low level of saturation. Unlike good animal fats,

it's not a significant source of most fat-soluble vitamins. Very

high-quality truly virgin olive oils (like Bariani) due have some genuine

nutritional value, but not enough to recommend them as a staple of the diet

except as a relative improvement over most other vegetable oils.

[Catz] And to that I add that olive oil actually is drying instead of

moisturizing, leeching the moisture right out of your body. Sometimes

simple language is more convincing than technical, heh?

The language may be simple, but I don't know what it means or why it should

be so. It sounds like an Aajonism, and while Aajonus has done some good

things, he's very, very far from the first person I'd trust to make dietary

judgements for me.
