Mashed Avocados for babies

Greetings,

Has anyone tried feeding mashed avocados to babies, in the same way as mashed

bananas?

Ours is 5 mo old and we started with egg yolk and mashed bananas (per NT).

Avocado is mostly mono-unsaturated fat - does that sound alright for a baby?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Pratick

Pratick,

In The Good Fat Cookbook, author Fran Mc Cullough says mashed avocado is

almost the exclusive first food of Israeli mothers for their babies. If

he/she has managed the egg yolk protein fine, the avocado should be without

issue. Avocado has the highest protein of vegetables too, even though

botanically it grows as fruit does. I try to eat an avocado every day.

My , 7 mos old, loves avocado mixed with banana (didn't like it

by itself). I mash it in a food processor, feed some fresh and freeze

the rest in ice cube trays to feed later.

I don't know, but I'd try to stick closer to nature. Humans turn carbs

(i.e. lactose in mother's milk) into saturated fat, and milkfat is

predominantly saturated. So bananas sound better to me than a heavily

monounsaturated oil source provided you don't overdo the sugar.

> HI,

I use a hand blender to make wonderfully smooth " pudding " with

avacado, banana and often an pastured egg yolk. You can mash it with

a fork but the hand blender makes a nicer consistency. This a yummy

food my 1 year old and 3 year old enjoy and me if I make enough :)

Avacados are great when you are on the go, I open one use a baby

spoon to grate out a bite at a time til the baby has had enough and

then we eat the rest.

Sorry for the lack of clarity -- I meant sugar in the form of bananas.

Is there a reason you want to push forward with more foods so quickly? And

how come the egg yolks is capped at 1 per day? (I'm genuinely curious --

this isn't something I know much about.)

I believe that is per NT recommendations.
